Toy Matinee. I wouldn't say "broke up" insofar as the leader, Kevin Gilbert killed himself (or so it is commonly understood/believed), but it is a CRYIN shame his band Toy Matinee did not and/or could not continue.

Sparta and Mars Volta were cool spin-offs of ATDI, but not as cool as the chemistry they all had together imo. Refused - well, wow, they could have been incredible. Handsome was comprised of some guys from Helmet and Quicksand. Anyway, good stuff TB nation.

i feel you on the At The Drive In. that one album was so good. it was Rage Against the Machine done right.

if Mars Volta (before he fired everybody) had cut out the more indulgent parts and made 3-4 minutes songs out of their stuff i would enjoy them more.

i... um.... have edited a LOT of songs in my collection to either cut out annoyingly long intros (i get it, you're edgy cause you can feedback arhythmically for 4 minutes), and chopped out mid-song jammy sections to make them more what i want to listen to.

Day of Fire. Christian band, their last album was secular, it failed miserably. They messed with a good thing and it backfired. Great band, though. Real shame.
