Bands that had huge popularity and, for a multitude of possible reasons, faded away and then had massive comebacks in popularity.
I can think of a couple off the top of my head:
Red Hot Chili Peppers, with their original climb up to 'Under The Bridge' era. Had a massive resurgence in the time of Californication and By The Way.
Aerosmith, Walk This Way era then a long drought but a big comeback in the 90's.
I could make a case for the Rolling Stones though I know they always sold a fair amount due to their initial worldwide success. But came back in '77/'78 with Some Girls. Again around the time of Start Me Up.
