Bands that have two bass players

For a short time, Herbie Mann, the late jazz flutist, had both Jeff Berlin and myself on the band together. I played simple bass, which gave Jeff the freedom to fly. And fly he did! He was amazing. Still is.

Sting "...All This Time" with Christian McBride on upright bass, and Sting on electric bass. Also saw XTC with Colin Moulding on bass with Will Lee on bass when they peformed on Letterman years ago. There are others. Don't forget bands that have a significant synth bass element who also have bassists playing electric bass. Mr. Mister, anyone? Level 42? and tons of others... NIN, etc...

31 years ago, my first concert, Kiss headlined (Destroyer tour) with Bob Seger in support and . . .

The opener was a very strange band for at that time . . . Felix Pappilardi and Creation.
Do you guys remmber Felix, the singing bassist for Mountain?
They also had two drummers too.

I saw Ivan Neville's group (Dumpstaphunk) use 2 basses, it was killer... Also, I saw James Brown in ATL months prior to his death and he had 2 bassists on stage.

Hugo Largo from the mid-late 1980's had two bass players and a violin player as well as singer Mimi Goese. I've got their 1988 EP Drum and the subsequent album Mettle that was released in 1989. Michael Stipe of R.E.M. fame produced their EP Drum as well as singing back-up vocals on two songs.

Also, I saw James Brown in ATL months prior to his death and he had 2 bassists on stage.

I saw a James Brown concert video a few months back and there were 2 bass players, but only one (stage right) was playing. The other bass guy was on stage left and just stood there holding his bass and wearing a s--- eating grin all night! I wonder if he was getting paid?

Can't believe no one mentioned Tortoise. They started "post-rock" in the early '90's. The first album is a 2 bass masterpiece.

From what I remember that's the other way round. Khumalo plays fretless, Simon played a bass VI.

not sure but this photo of me and two of my friends came to mind when I saw this thread.

I own two of the basses..the one I am holding and the one that the man on the far right is holding. The pick guard on the bass the man on left is holding, is now on one of my basses. Neither of the two men with me play bass (the man on left plays guitar I think) but we were just having a good time that nite!

I'm in a band with two bass players. The whole bands me on drums and vocals with two bass players. Its LOUD! It's a noise rock band so the bass isn't overally cool to play but the effects used are cool.
