Agreed on SoaD. Scars on Broadway was SoaD without Serj and it was not nearly as engaging for me as a listener.

No. Not only is this another case of an independent singer NOT ruining any "band" (what band?), but Tiny Tim had a very specific novelty artistic act that he planned and lived out. Nobody ever said he was a good singer; his act was about his character, which he inhabited with complete dedication. That is more than can be said for most singers or bands.
The reason I replied earlier that this was "nonsense" is because there are plenty of examples of Mercury singing with rock grit in his voice.
Well, this is more of a subjective case. I have always loved Chrissy Hynde's voice, both the tone and the full range of expression, feeling, and articulation in it. I will sort of agree though that this is one case where the band was so excellent that they could have recorded without her and still done very well.
Let me add Tom Waits to the list. Which makes me sad. I think he's a great songwriter and I really want to like him and have purchased several of his albums in an attempt to do so. I don't listen to any of them much though because I really can't stand his voice. I do think that Blue Valentine and Heart Attack And Vine are great albums though. I wish I could listen to them more.
Actually, his range wasn't really his strong point. It was still a fantastic range, but a lot of the super high notes people ascribe to him were actually Roger Taylor, for instance, the high B flat in Bohemian Rhapsody. Freddie's strong point was just how clear and easy his high notes were. It wasn't the range of his voice, it was the quality of the sound all through his range.
Not to disparage him at all, but credit to the other band members where credit is due. : P
GNR, Dream Theatre, Rush, Sublime, Neil Young, Bob Dylan, Motörhead, Muse, Kings of Leon, Arcade Fire, Radiohead, Stone Temple Pilots, Coldplay, Flock of Seagulls, Gotye, White Stripes, Metallica, Smashing Pumpkins, Tom Waits....I like some of these bands but would like them more if their singers had different styles/were better. I think Anthony Kiedis has improved but I also strongly prefer the Chili Peppers' early stuff, so go figure!
I'd thought about bringing them up, but personally, there's nothing that makes the band interesting at all.

I've met Kid Rock several times. You can like his music or not, but he's the opposite of a douchebag as a human being.
I find it funny how people who rip on so many successful musicians who will do more on one album then any of the trolls will ever do.
It's not that I don't think some players are overrated but it really boils down to personal taste. Just because I don't like something does not mean it's bad.
