I have no opinion on Smashing Pumpkins but I would say exactly the opposite about SoAD. Different strokes for different folks... I always thought Creeds vocals were terrible.
Bands that singers ruin... Bob Dylan
Dylan is a singer, he hires an assortment of backing players as needed. There is no "ruining the band", no matter how bad his voice is.Bob Dylan
No. Not only is this another case of an independent singer NOT ruining any "band" (what band?), but Tiny Tim had a very specific novelty artistic act that he planned and lived out. Nobody ever said he was a good singer; his act was about his character, which he inhabited with complete dedication. That is more than can be said for most singers or bands.Tiny Tim.
Worst singer in history. Game. Set. Match.
The reason I replied earlier that this was "nonsense" is because there are plenty of examples of Mercury singing with rock grit in his voice.Freddie just isn't a rock singer in the conventional sense. His voice didn't have any grit to it. Sure he had an amazing range, but Queen were a sort of theatrical prog-musical space opera rather than an actual rock band in the conventional sense.
Well, this is more of a subjective case. I have always loved Chrissy Hynde's voice, both the tone and the full range of expression, feeling, and articulation in it. I will sort of agree though that this is one case where the band was so excellent that they could have recorded without her and still done very well.I would have to say The Pretenders.
Listen to the instrumentation on any of their records and its superb....and then Crissy Hynde starts whining and sneering into the microphone and wrecks the whole thing.

I find it funny how people who rip on so many successful musicians who will do more on one album then any of the trolls will ever do.
