Bar Rigs---> Let's see em!!

For guys with tube amps at bar gigs... do you ever have power problems? We quite often play one venue with one circuit (don't know if it is 15A or 20A) for the whole band. This means the guitar players tube amp, the PA, my bass rig, and all the "little" things.

I am suspicious that if I used a tube amp it would put us over the top.

This weekend rig. Ampeg portoflex pf500 and the 115he with my 1998 GGj5

I used to worry about this alot. I don't any more and we often use the aforementioned set-up on ONE old circuit. No problems. Of course we don't have a 2000 watt pa amp or anything. I don't know off-hand how much current my V4B uses, but I don't feel like it's a lot.

I've never - in my 35+ yrs had a problem using my all tube amps, not in a bar or function room etc.
The one problem I can remember was when a generator was being used at a wedding that was out in a paddock etc. .

Oh baby, I have a new favorite gig rig!

Just picked up a like new Ampeg SVT212av from a great local TBer (thanks Fdbishop1!). Wow, just wow.

The Broughton HP/LP and a custom 12AX7 tube make my PF800 sound warm and just awesome through this cab.

But the cherry is the Grizzly Bear. That pedal just speaks my language.

Woohoo! Back to one cab and one trip into the gig from the car.

Don't know - but even a 500 watt amp pulls about the same amount of power as a hairdryer, so I doubt if you'd have problems.

Why would you think a tube amp would use more power than a solid state amp?

I played for many years with a 220 W Trace Elliot V-Type rig. I never had a problem with power. I was more worried with my 750 W solid-state SWR Interstellar Overdrive & Power 750 rig (which can actually put 850 W into 2.7 Ohms).

900 watts, under 50# total (Tecamp puma 900 head & S212 cab). I have a second cab that I use for occasional outdoor gigs.

Nice! That looks like what I'm thinking for my next rig, a Darkglass Microtubes 900 on top of a vertical 2x12 sealed cab, fitted with two of the Trace Elliot/Celestion 200 W 12" drivers from my old V-Type 1248H cabinet that I can't pick up, anymore.

I think the Mesa Horizontal 2x12 Recto guitar cabinet is about the same size as half a Trace Elliot 1248H, so I'm looking for one of those. I'll put rubber feet on the side, and stand it up.

I'm just gonna say this, then go. 4x12's is not a bar rig. No one seems to care about posting REAL bar rigs. This thread has become an excuse to post any photo of any rig you have that you like.

dafuq? I played plenty of bars with my Trace Elliot V-Type half stack. "Real" bar rigs are rigs that get played in bars, not someone's idea of what should be used in bars.

This is my actual rig. It's almost 4 years now that I own 'em.
I used to bring that combo in both bar and open-air gigs, and it never gave me volume or "presence" issues.
I'm actually waiting for the matching Schroeder 115PL cabinet. But it's not "a need", because that 2x10" is truly awesome: fullness and clarity at the same time, very touch-responsive and dynamic cab, even used as stand-alone.

On the rare outdoor or big indoor gig, I run a pair of em- works great, and only takes up a 14" square piece of real estate.

Well my post, #221 is a 4x12 rig and the photo was taken at the gig. Just because I have a 4x12 rig doesn't mean it has to be stupid loud! I could do without the second cabinet and sometimes I don't bring it. But I do prefer having both to get speakers closer to my ear level since I am 6'3".
You gotta use what you have or what you feel will give you the best possible sound. Most of the places I have played in, I have used GK212 with GK MBF500 was the biggest rig I have used.

Yes, I should have said tube amps and old SS amps. I figure that most people who use SS have moved on to class D, which is very efficient. However, that is a big assumption on my part and not based on any real facts :atoz:
