Yes they are, and greater internal volume for a given design I believe.

The slightly staggered woofers vs vertical woofers makes NO DIFFERENCE AT ALL. I do believe the superior cooling of the tall port up the side rather than the wide port of the bottom is worth having in a cab that may get pushed very hard, and also we've found this approach makes the cab stronger and stiffer for a given weight and stops unwanted transmission line effects that occur in tall cabs with the port at the bottom or top.

BFM teaches over and over that stacking subwoofers horizontally is bad so this contradicts his theory. Anyway, expanding on the heating subject, this is what Eminence engineers say - which seems to support your cooling theory over greenboys disbelief as stated in the above posts.

Generally speaking, the number one contributor to a transducer’s power rating is its ability to release thermal energy. This is affected by several design choices, but most notably voice coil size, magnet size, venting, and the adhesives used in voice coil construction. Larger coil and magnet sizes provide more area for heat to dissipate, while venting allows thermal energy to escape and cooler air to enter the motor structure. Equally important is the ability of the voice coil to handle thermal energy. Eminence is renowned for its use of proprietary adhesives and components that maximize the voice coil’s ability to handle extreme temperatures. <snip>

I don't think "staggered " is the same thing as " horizontal ". Not as optimal as vertical, but hardly the same as side by side.

That&#8217;s what I said in post #42. Anyway thanks, but it was also stated that horizontally stacked (side by side) subwoofers were ok too - not just staggerd, please read the whole thread.

I think you are taking things out of perspective. In reference to full range drivers, yes vertically aligned is the way to go. As far as LF only drivers it is less important. Hence the mid drivers in a 66 are vertical and the subs are slightly staggered. As far as thermal limits go, if you are pushing a 3012lf or 3015lf in to thermal limitations, the ventilation of a ported cab is not your major concern. It is a big voltage swing. Un-bridge your amp, and get a bigger amp.
