manny being manny!!!!!

im watching the play by play on si.com and i see papi gets walked? are they nuts? thinking manny is going to be an easy out when manny is BETTER in october.

sheesh. yanks lose. my day is complete.

oh and yeah cc has some better stats then beckett, but he has played more games as well. 34 to 30. hence more k's, and more innings pitched.

i think if beckett played 4 more games he would have atleast the 15k's to tie cc.

Sooner or later you knew Manny was going to make them pay. That ball was crushed - one bounce and on the Pike - westbound.

Dice-K was not impressive but not bad - he needs to trust his stuff a little more. Escobar settled down nicely as well. This game could have gone either way.

xgabriele - the kid made an absolutely legal and clutch play. Fans can't reach out on to the field but they can defend their turf when the ball comes to them. Smart fans let the home team reach in unmolested and fight like tigers when the visitors reach in - home field advantage. In this case, I would think that the photographers booth was the official start of the stands. I wonder what the Angel catcher thought when he looked up after that play and saw Stephen King grinning at him. :D

Don't forget J.D. Drew with the clutch 2-out basehit to score the first two runs.

That is the way the Sox have played all year and if they keep it up they have as good a chance as anyone.

Regarding Cy Young; it is only 1 win but it is a significant number in baseball terms - 20 wins is 20 wins - last I checked no one else had 20 wins. Sabathia had 4 extra games to win 1 or 2 games and he didn't - better luck next year. Plus at the end of the year, the team with the most wins goes to the playoffs not the team with the most strikeouts or lowest WHIP or lowest ERA (are your figures park-adjusted?). It is close, but with the W-L records so close, giving it the guy with the most wins makes sense.

Regarding the bugs at Jacobs - I guess they are a type of mayfly known as canadian soldiers. You have to love how quick the Yankee fans are to jump into Wikipedia - I kid you not this was written about tonights game-

"Although the game was not delayed by the umpires in any way, the ensuing infestation was the cause of numerous momentary timeouts in the game, and clearly caused the Yankee loss." I thought it was termites in the Yankee bats; but I guess I'm wrong.

p.s. what a whining bunch those NYY fans are - many of my friends have e-mailed me and called the loss as a direct result of the bug distraction in last nights game. hello!?!?!? - you do realize that Cleveland was also pitching with all those bugs, and just as distracted - right???

I give all of the pitchers (both teams) who endured that swarm my respect for being able to remain focused and deliver under some very adverse and distracting conditions.

irrespective of team - I find it odd that as of this morning all teams in the play-offs are either 2-0 or 0-2. I can't recall a year when there wasn't at least one 1st round tied at 1-1

if things hold course, it ought to be a most intense round 2, eh?

Most odd, especially since these teams looked pretty even - the AL teams were separated by 2 wins and the NL teams (IMHO) were likewise pretty even -shows you what I know. If anything, you would figure that the two hot teams coming in - Rockies and Phillies would have split.

I don't see four sweeps - although I would love to see the Sox take care of business. Schill lives for moments like these.

I have a feeling that the Yankees bats will just explode tomorrow and they will put a bigger number on the board than either the Jets or Giants. At least 10-7 but maybe more like 14-10. Roger will get rocked but will get a No Decision. He'll get a nice ovation from the Yankee faithful upon his departure. I have no idea if that is the last we will see him.

Ouch - that had to hurt.

Actually, we might be straying into "offending the baseball gods" territory. :hiding:

Let's not fire all our guns off at once; there is a lot of baseball left to be played and I don't want to eat too many cold dishes.
