And it wouldn't surprise me at all to see him accept much less to manage elsewhere. That would be justice, especially if he can create another winner...

Fire Bobby Cox to hire Joe Torre?? Are you out of your mind? Cox is a much better manager than Torre ever was.
How are you getting Greg Maddux? He's going back to San Diego. Good luck with Glavine next year.
Sincerely,
Bitter Mets Fan
Nobody said anything about firing Cox. I'm well aware of Bobby's managerial capabilities...he's the best there is...but he's been talking retiring and if Pendelton doesn't get it, I'd love to see Torre. He'd be a perfect fit with what the Braves do...
And don't be mad at Tom because your front office gave all their money to Sean Green and an old Pedro so they couldn't afford to buy any bullpen help, starting pitching, or outfielders that aren't drawing social security.![]()
I'm mad a Tom because he is a no-class scumbag. After his implosion on the last day of the season, at least put on a face and make it seem like you care that you just got owned. If he only cared as much as the fans that pay his salary did.
Regarding Shawn Green, the Mets got money from Arizona. They were on the hook for $4 Million. He's gone after this year anyways.
Pedro was a no-brainer and will be back to form next year. You might forget this, but he made two All-Star teams as a Met. How many has Mike Hampton made as a Brave?? Oh and by the way, the Braves are on the hook for $15 Million for Hampton next year. Talk about killing a payroll. I'd be surprised if they sign a free agent next year at all. You could always bring back Bob Wickman, I guess.
I'll take our Social Security drawing outfield. Beltran is ancient(just a little saracasm there), Alou played half the year, but absolutely mashed, and we have Milledge in right field next year. Who's replacing Andruw Jones? Willie Harris????? Don't pretend like you're getting Torii Hunter. Maybe Cameron, and that guy is a strikeout machine.
I understand Terry's moves, non-moves and comments as being designed to keep his players' confidence levels up - to give them something to feel good about so they do not get too down on themselves when things are not going well. It is also designed to project confidence to the entire team - that is part of the reason the Sox did not do the desparation "Beckett on short rest" move - to be confident you need to act confident. Confidence is especially important for hitters as the best of them will fail 2 out of 3 times. That said, Ellsbury will start tomorrow. Crisp looks lost at the plate and Ellsbury gives them comparable defense. Next year, Ellsbury is the starting CF; but I would keep Crisp as a 4th outfielder, base-stealing threat.
And how about Torre? Here's a guy that has won 3 out of every 5 games for 12 years (and made the post season every year), and the Yanks offer him a 33% pay cut (before "incentive" bonuses - like he needs incentive!). I think Joe made the right move, and I think it showed little class by the Yanks.
If they didn't want him back, simply tell him so. If they want him back, at least give him what he made last (this) year (c'mon, he did a great job keeping that debacle of an early season team together!).
lets hope schill makes it to the 5th so lester can come in and rock these guys.

between schill making it out of the 7th, jd drew hitting well, and eric gagne pitching good, i can't wait for tomorrow.Schilling might make it through 8 innings at this rate!![]()
Youk's big ol' chrome dome was put to use!!!
