Bass Confessional

I forgot these ones-
-I hated the way the Ernie Ball Bongo Bass looked until I played one-Now I secretly want a dual pick up version in orange.
-The last gig I did I was "overplaying/showing off" some- a true sin. But I am aware of my insecurity and will try my best to play whats best for the music the next gig I have.

Don't care for Jaco, Victor, Stanley, or Jonas Hellborg. Sorry, but I'm just not moved by their music. At all.
I have put forth very little effort in learning to slap/pop.
I have put forth very little effort in learning to sight-read.
I have put forth very little effort in learning theory.
I have put forth very little effort in learning what the hell modes are for.
I have put forth very little effort in learning jazz.

But...
I have spent time and effort learning a fair amount of music that I normally would never listen to.
I have spent time and effort trying to learn a handful of scales, and their relative positions.
I have spent time and effort trying to learn by ear.
I have spent time and effort trying to improvise.
I have spent time and effort trying to figure out who speaks the truth here on TB, and who's full of crap.
I have spent time and effort daydreaming on what gear I'm gonna buy if I win the lottery.

forgive me...

-The tuners on my favorite bass cost more than the bass did

-My wife bought me a beautiful bass for my birthday, but I hardly ever play it...:(

-My drummer and I got into an "Eff you!" "EFF YOU!" shouting fight during a song once and never missed a beat. The club owner heard us and chewed our butts about it afterward. :D

-I have NEVER listened to the recorded versions of certain songs we cover, simply because I hate the artist. One of those artists is Metallica. Thanks for killing Napster, you turds.
(BTW, picked up the song first time. Chunka Chunka Chunka.)

-I sometimes purposely play wrong notes just to mess with the keyboard player.

-A woman distracted me with her womanly assets once during "Wonderful Tonight" and made me completely flub it.

-I played on a borrowed bass for a year.

-The only piece of equipment over $1000 that I own is... a guitar.

-I actually pride myself on my budget equipment.

-I never use picks.

-I thumb the E string more than necessary.

The worst: One of my basses has never had a case or gig bag.

I'm sure I've sinned more, but thankfully I can't remember them all. "Hail Leo, full of..." hey wait, I don't believe in Leo.

I Confess:

I Love Mustang Sally and Freebird
I Hate Fender P Basses (Please forgive me)
I can't stand the sound of a Rickenbacker (Hail Leo 7x's)
I've never been crazy about Motorhead (Forgive me God...I mean Lemmy)
All Ampeg 810's should all be beaten, burned and buried (Don't hate me JimmyM)
hey, i didn't invent it. but i think i'll take mine to my gig tomorrow now ;)

I only strive to be good enough. I don't want to be in a magazine.

I've made a living as a musician, but can't read bass clef.

In high school, I once jammed the head of a Ric 4001 into the ceiling of my friend's basement. (yeah you, Gravy!)

I wait till the last minute to learn what I need for a gig.

I hate Fender basses... all of 'em.

I rarely treat the electric bass like a bass instrument. I feel it's reverberation actually makes it an inferior bass instrument.

I use a total of 4 different string sets on my one electric bass.

I don't like slap

I'm not even sure what Mustang Sally or the Barney Miller theme sounds like.

hmmm...
i've been playing for 10 years and neither know nor care what a mode is
I can read treble cleff better than bass cleff

i'm pretty clean aside from that. I did do a slap-wah version of hey joe at my last gig tho... i'm told it was cool but I felt so dirty
