Yeah, I'd say it would be worth the ridicule from other bassists to take that gig. You could probably earn enough money to retire on if you stuck with them long enough.

not to mention that if you do a good job, you're going to be in the running for other gigs, some of which might be truly epic.

Wouldn't you have a better reputation if you were known for blowing off gigs as "not big enough for me?" I mean how good could you be if you have to stoop to putting forth an effort?

Yea, why arent you guys reading the interview to see what its about? You just started hating on it before you know anything about it. Just because he plays for the Jonas brothers doesnt mean anything. Im sure he can outplay most people on here. You take the gigs you can get. If i had the opportunity to get that gig I would in a heartbeat, no question about it. LOTS OF HATERS ON HERE. Shows that the majority of the people on here arent actual working bassists

BP is supposed to be a magazine about bassists, not a fanboy magazine about bass heroes. The dude with the Jonas Brothers sounds like a very successful working bassist. Any bassist who actually wants to make a living with his instrument, would be silly not to consider a gig like that if it became available.

I could not agree more. The guy was presented the opportunity of a lifetime and he took it.

A band that tours the country, has a show that kids watch, and makes millions is "not big enough" of a gig? I fail to see how you determined that idea. Outside of a few bassists, most can not just say that. We may not like the music, but that doesn't mean that the dude should just thumb his nose. Maybe he likes it. He is making a living better than 99% of us.

Good plaing gig, what' the problem. Not punk rock enough? I'd rather work for the man playing my instrument instead of actually working for the man. Put the "I'm too cool" meter away and just wail on it. Moments are fleeting.

I like that BP has a wide variety of players in each issue. I don't think any one person will like all of the players presented. You can't please everyone all the time...if you try, you will please no one.

Its actually a decent article, if you read it. Very intelligent, and prospering bassist.

Not the normal double bass player, or jazz bassist, but I like the bit of spice. I enjoyed the article.

The kid won the lottery — good for him. I'd rather read about a hundred good bassists playing in bands I don't like than one talentless goofball (Fieldy) who thinks his (Fieldy) total musical ignorance makes him (Fieldy) somehow more hip.

That said, when this BP subscription runs out, it'll be my last. It's just gotten so anemic and trite lately. And the gigantic Grandma's Bible typeface is just stupid. Let the old readers get glasses — the super-sized fonts mean less printed words per page.

When Guitar magazines trotted out their bass mag a few years ago, I snickered at how much more 'serious' and 'professional' BP was. Now, BP looks and reads JUST like those other guys did...

Nothing wrong with BP - I subscribed way back when they started.

They cover some worthwhile stuff and they do try to mix it up. I think we should support the magazine it is one of the few dedicated Mags - in all honestly if Bass Gear and Bass Player came together I think they would have a killer combination - not saying I dislike Bass Gear because it is an awesome Magazine done right - but I think combined they could essentially kill it and become "The" Magazine for Bass Players - combining the great gear coverage with the lesson and spotlights on various Artists and Bass Gear IMO is closer to the community.
