Bass Player Pet Peeves

The lead guitarist in my band does exactly that. I once spent like half an hour trying to show him the PROPER way to play "Outshined" by Soundgarden, and he had this one way set in his mind and me showing him the right way did nothing at all. Stubborn guitarists, thankfully our rhythm guitarist takes the time to learn the right way and right tuning to play songs in:)

You go, girl! I'm the same way...Whist carrying my Fender 60 or my head and cab, or a monitor, when they want to help..."Sure! There's some mic stands still in there."

Edited to say: Singer in my old, all-female band, wouldn't carry *anything* but her mic case and some cords. She once made me go back to her car for a *guitar stand*!!! I mean, she just insisted; no boys around to do it for her. That was our last gig, coincidentally.

Cherie :bassist:grrl!
Oh my gosh!!! I rarely laugh out loud when I'm just reading posts..

but this was TOO much!! hehehehe! So you or someone else showed that 'girlie girl' singer
to the door eh? Oh man..thats just too rich! "that was our last gig coincidentally!" :D :smug:

hmmm....

- People playing basses like steel guitars :/
- Higher Ground
- Hearing people play as a group from 3 different sides of the store
- Guitarists saying " your amp is too loud"
- Inexperienced 6 string players trying to play power chords
- Bad slappers
- Drummers getting off time
- Rhythmless guitarists
- Guitar show - offs
- People saying "it's only got 4 strings?" ..

and last but not least: Bass players who never attempt to clean their instrument....

Yessss, quite a coincidence. LOL!

She found herself unable to find anyone to work with for over a year. Every one of the local musicians knows that she will never carry anything, will act helpless, and will manipulate males into doing her work for her. We couldn't keep a drummer because she varies the tempo too much, messes the rhythm section all up, and then chastizes us *on stage*. Sometimes, in the mic, and always with glowering facial experssions that the audience can read like a book. On top of that, she is very autocratic. Tell us what to do, but won't help, and treat us like naughty children on stage? That dog don't hunt!

She's doing some acoustic combo work now, which suits her. Not a lot of equipment to carry, and no drummer and bassist to piss off.

+100 And I didnt even have to type them. Thank you!

Pets peeves....
- Guitarists showing off by playing a well known riff or solo and then getting it totally wrong.
- Drummers showboating with fills that dont fit.
- Rock Pub / Club owners asking us to turn down.
- Too may knobs and dials on my bass.
- Packing away my large heavy gear first only to find that the others still need help with their little guitar combo's.
- Being told Im too loud iin the mix..... TURN THE OTHERS UP!
- Some bright spark singer deciding now is the right time to resurrect an old tune of ours that we havent played for months becasue the 'crowd are ready for it'.... which leads nicely to...
- Singers forgetting their words.
- The Solo to 'All Right Now'......
Thats about all for now.
Mak.

* Bassist's Inferiority Complex. You play bass, it's cool, be happy about it.

* It's been said before several times in this thread, but when the whole band turns down and/or stops playing completely when the bass gets a solo. Hello, this is not the 1940s, I'm playing an electric instrument through a several-hundred-watt (or more!) amplifier. If I want to be heard on my solo I'll PLAY LOUDER. Support me as I support you, for crying out loud!

* Outdoor gigs.

* "Generally muso's who imitate their idols." I heard that! Once at Elderly, dude with a Jaco knit hat and Jaco dreads grabs a fretless J, plugs into an Acoustic 360 stack that just happened to be there, and proceeds to play nothing but Jaco stuff, note-for-note, harmonic-for-harmonic, for a half an hour. Dude spent the whole time looking around waiting for someone to tell him how amazing he was.

Peace

never heard of this. why would someone play something that they didn't want to play (aside from being a little kid forced to play piano or violin)? i don't think you'll find too many bassists here who are ashamed of what they play...

...WELCOME TO TALKBASS the land of bassists proud of being a bassist! :bassist:

some of these have probably been said:
-kids at the front who dont like what your playing so they throw things at you (happned once)

-new strings that go out of tune during a set

-bass players who use too much treble

-cocky, arrogant band members

-band members who care more about how they look than how they play (ex guitarist, wore his guitar very low down, wore alot of rigs, which affected his playing somewhat.)

-just about all keyboard players. keyboards aren't needed in a rock band

-bassists who are just guitarists trying to play bass cause the band couldn't find a bass player. i suspect mark hoppus.

Lead singers who like to play that one "look y'all, I play guitar too!" song, but can't set up the guitar or the combo amp that gets in the way and wastes an outlet. Who also begs the lead guitarist to restring their guitar for them, and yes, even tune it, because they don't know how!

Tell me about it! We used to be a 5-piece before paring down to our current power trio lineup. I never really understood what the deal was with our old singer/rhythm guitar player... He wasn't very good at either singing or guitar, and he didn't have much to contribute to the band, otherwise. He was broke, so I bought a used Gibson SG Faded for him to play, and let him use my old Line6 POD Pro as his amp. He didn't know how to string his guitar, tune, or even work the straplocks - let alone setting up the Line6 POD, let ALONE programming sounds or using the floorboard - I pretty much did everything for him except actually perform. And even then, much of the time, we pulled him almost completely out of the mix because he couldn't play with a ****. Eventually we switched him to backup singer, and then got rid of him altogether.

As our lead guitar player (and now frontman) once said, "I figured out how to make a band tighter. Kick out the people that suck!"

Does anyone here remember Commander Cody and His Lost Planet Airmen? The lead singer wore a guitar around his neck but never played it. It was strictly a prop. In their case, though, it was kind of a gag-- they were a great band with lots of humor.

Mine don't spacificly have to do with bass but pretty much any musical instrument....

-people who have no rythem
-people who say that their awesome and they realy arn't
-people who pick up their instrument play a few note then look around the room like they forgot something
-people who think they know everything about bass when they first start
-people who think bringing a whole bands equipment is realy easy
-relitives who make you play for them
-when people think someone's awesome because they can tap
-bassists who never leave the root or the fifth
-this one idiot i knew thought primus and chili peppers had no talent when he cant hold a note or think of rythem or pitch
-people who get onstage with you to play/sing a song and make you look like the worst band ever
-the "emo" bands who don't move and look like they hate their music
-when your singer steals the money for the show you played
-when your singer steals it infront of you

I just noticed I got a little off topic..haha whatever
