no theory bro.... reality. the protos will be at NAMM (the smaller cabs) with the rest following by April I believe.

500 watts @ 8ohms...
1,000 watts @ 4ohms...
NO DSP (I don't think it is needed)
NOT THE BERG POWER SECTION!
Internally mounted
Controls (presumably only volume) on rear panel
Only a couple lbs. Tiny unit. Amazing.
About 20 percent less* than a similar Bergantino IP cab. (*street price)

I think that covers it.

It took QUITE a bit of tweaking, but in the end, the BPXTL is a great piece of gear. I typically am using 3-5 of the patches in a show. All are VERY subtle, more chorus than anything else w/ the exception of my OD patch which (if I recall correctly) is using the model for the 360 and the fuzzface (?). When I set mine up, I went to a totally flat EQ on my pre and turned the drive to the 204 OFF, so I could get a better sense of the Pod's effect. I dumped all the presets.

The 204's effect can be so dramatic it's easy to overdo it. After having it for a couple months, I rethought my sound and emphasized my AMP's settings, then sparingly added in the 204 after I'd dialed in the BPXTL patches as close as I can get them.

Current project patch: working out a good patch to run my Takamine ABG for a Eagles-ish tune or two on one of my current projects.

Oh yeah, I have a synth patch that I use along with Gary Wright "My Love Is Alive", w/ a Leslie-like wah effect.

Order of the day for this gear: Be discerning when looking for "that" tone. It's there if you're patient...but it can take a while. I think finding a tone to be fresh and different is more than worth the effort.

For some reason I was thinking another TB'r did this stuff but was thinking it was reminescent of the recordings you'd posted before - general style. Some interesting tones but I'm always attracted by other than bass tones in your mixes it seems. Also seems some of those bass tones were similar to the last set. No critique just observation. Kind of wierd how vocals put a different spin on tunes. When you look back after the jazz era, not a lot of hit instrumentals made it big.

I sold my bass podxt with thoughts of the forthcoming (since arrived) X3 as I'd like something for bass and guitar. Probably pick one up as soon as they the used market and get some feedback. Haven't played guitar in a years but I'm interested in checking it out again.

Hi mate,

Thanks for the comments (both of you). The similarities of the 'new' recordings to the old are there - I used the same 4 string Vigiers on some of the tunes, but the jazz bass was a new one. I am really happy the sound is similar because it highlights a big benefit of the pod for me - the right tone anywhere, as some of those bass parts were recorded at separate ends of the country!

I am going up to the studio again this weekend and I am planning to record more of the same jazz funk tat alongside some video material for a little job I have where I will show off some more 'outside the box' sounds.

So thanks very much and I too look forward to trying the X3 soon, it looks a great addition to a studio. I will keep the XT pro though as my guitar skills are horrible. When a rack version comes out we will install one in the studio for sure.

Do you remeber Robert DeLeo :) Stonr temple pilots bassman??
He used to play on ALembic pre, now in Army of anyone he plays LINE 6 POD XT PRO!!!!Believe or not his sound is KILLER!!! Comparable MAYBE better than times with Alembic.....this was impulse for me to purchase Line6. I can stand waiting for it....I am really digital sceptic but Deleo sound blow me out...I hope Line 6 wont disappoint me, I really dont need zilion effects or cab modeling(my real cab is good enough) I only hope that 2 or 3 amp modeling will be usable....and really look forwad to compare SWR GP against LINE 6 SWR model....if Line 6 succes i sell SWR GP with calm heart....

I got my PODxt Live last March. I found the presets to be as you described and started tweaking. I set up presets of most of the amp models and a few effects I thought I would need to "dial up" for various cover tunes.
I began going to practice with just the POD and my bass, running bass to pod to PA board. The sound is amazing! I have never had better tone. I particularly like the Fender amp models as well as the Acoustic 360, and SVT.

HI, nice sounds, but i would like to ask you how do you "feel tone" with pod, i belive that pod makes really excelent sounds but i am little bit scared of feeling from digital.

I dont doubt that it sounds great but i plan to use it mainly live and as i said i fear digital feeling?

What can you tell me about feeling tone, its same like with analog or there is any differences??

Hi mate,

I really don't put much stock in the digital/solid state/valve arguments because I think it is better to judge any piece of gear by its own merits - For example I use my pod exclusively in the studio and leave my Trace Elliot V4 all valve beast at home simply because they sound great in their own ways - don't get me wrong, I am a complete audiophile, but with my pod or my trace or whatever amp I have had, I always strive to acheive one thing - just the clean sound of my bass but louder, with excellent detail and smoothness. Both set-ups give me that and more. The big benefit of the XT pro of course being that it weighs nothing and requires no mic'ing up. I honestly expected to dislike it and sell it on (I got it as a part trade for a mesa 400+) but totally love it. As others have noted, it takes some setting up but if you approach it with a level head and no expectations then you may well like it too...

Just wanted to say I downloaded the lot and really like them (tones and tracks too). Track 3 reminds me a tad of Arabic Cat (I think) by Doug Wimbish, its the synth part I think. Really nice stuff!

Like the variety alot.

I'd agree with everything you say.But I think it can be exanded upon to cover most 'higher' end effects units & preamps. I've spent most time playing with the much maligned Digitech BP8 but have spent a few hours in a friends studio with the Bass Pod Pro and found a tonne of really usable tones in there - really dig the compressor too. But absolutely nothing without tweaking extensively.

+1 zillion to all of the above.

FOR FOLKS LOOKING AT THE X3(including me), there is trouble in paradise. It really looks like Line 6 management over-ruled engineering in both cost cutting and product launch time and USERS are basically BETA testing an unfinished product(IMO). IF, and that's a BIG if, I get an X3 WHEN/if Line 6 "fixes it" and provides working software interfaces....I'll KEEP THE XTL as a backup WITH ME.
