Double Bass Bass Repair = Cello Repair?

How many people who work on basses also work on cellos? One of my students just asked me about helping him find someone to fix his mother's cello as a Mothers' Day present. Obviously it won't get done in time, but it brings up the larger question of whether or not most people who work on basses also work on cellos. My experience is that they don't, but now I'm curious as to how different they are mechanically to work on.

And, of course, if anyone around these parts wants to recommend a person, please do. Northern New Jersey, Bergen County.

I've had some minor bass work (bridge adjustment & bow rehair) performed by a shop called "Mercury Fine Violins" when it was still located in Richmond. The name implies a focus on violins, but the owner/luthier is a cellist by training and had some experience playing double bass as well, so he does work on a range of string instruments.

I would imagine that depending upon location, luthiers in smaller areas have to branch out in their skills to generate enough business to make ends meet.
