Made in jest but it's a good point none the less. Whenever you make your benchmark 'most obscure' even with qualifiers (ie, who are actually good) - where do you stop? Telling you about my great uncle who was phenomenal but never recorded anything before he died doesn't really give anyone else anything to grab hold of.

I'm reminded that Tom Scholz played most of he instruments including bass, on Boston's eponymous debut album. The bass work throughout was unique, inspired, and superb.
