Bass was a Jazz body w/ a fretless P-bass neck.

Yes, on the liner notes to Mahavishnu's Inner Worlds album Ralphe is explicitly listed as using a Brassmaster on the title track.

John Wetton and his Foxx fuzz wha were a force to be reckoned with though I can't find a good video link to provide.
This one is great anyway.
Tony Levin also uses effects effectively and I just spent about an hour watching Peter Gabriel and King Crimson videos that had very little bass effects but were lots of fun.
