Their first two albums are among my favorites, with notably diminishing returns following that. There's a difference between maturing as an artist and getting preachy and losing your edge entirely.
That said, my originals band covers Shake Your Rump on occasion with satisfying results.

I love Paul Revere but there's really no decent bass line to play along with so...fail.
Try "Hungry" or "Just Like Me."
(You would have to be an old guy to get that)I like that fuzz bass on "Sabotage" alot. I also think the BB sense of humor rocks. They make me laugh, laughter is good for the soul.

Hey Tommy...I was at the Beastie Boys show in 87 in Houston also.. Do remember one of the opening bands Murphys Law? The guy held up a beer and sang to it... Great Show.

It was a great show. All the bands drank beer and threw the cans at the crowd. Ok. Now I feel old.

that being said Paul's Boutique may just be in the top 5 best record EVER IMO.
Dust Brothers+Beasties= huge win
the beasties gave the finger to their entire unintentional "frat boy" fan base they aquired with the fight for your right craze. an audience that didnt see the beastie were being ironic and took them as literal and made it their anthem. whats really interesting is they also gave the finger to the major media outlets too and just made an album for self pleasure and for a true beastie fan base..the people who just "get it" thats how the dust brothers rolled all the time and sonically it was a match made in heaven.
Shake your Rump and High Plains Drifter are amazing tracks.
i do like beastie tracks outside of this album but pauls boutique hits the mark in every sense.

It'd probably be more apparent if you had been a kid when they first hit the scene and had seen them develop from something that parents feared would corrupt their children to being just another alternative rock project.
Green Day's actually gotten better IMHO, although I do admit it's been hard to take them seriously when they've done their recent material considering their absolutely juvenile roots.
I agree with pretty much every statement here. I discovered the album a few years too late, but honestly it blew my mind when I first heard it and still is in my top five albums ever, and easily a contender for the number one spot. I just wish they'd continued to create at as high a level, everything else has never reached close to that high water mark.
yeah its one of those reasons i dont really dig any new beastie boys joints... ive seen the potential of how good they can really be and its just makes everything else seem a lil subpar. id probably feel alot more newer beasties if it wasnt for the perfection of PB
It makes me happy to see this thread, I've just started seeing people knock the Beasties on here, and it makes me wonder if they really play bass or listen to music. I'll always be thankful that my brother played them so much when I was young, I think it ingrained the really funky **** into my developing brain. "Root Down" was one of the first bass lines I learned!
Paul's Boutique and License to Ill are the classics, but don't forget to show love for Hello Nasty! That record has it all.. I haven't really got into anything of theirs after it, but it's still so far ahead of so much else out there right now.

their music has been hit or miss with me. But a few years ago they came out and apologized for making fun of gays and HIV positive people earlier in their careers. I respect them for that.
I've always liked them but wasn't too impressed by that instrumental album they put out as the music seemed pretty repetitive and simpistic. Without the vocals, it was kinda obvious that they didn't really have the musicianship to make the songs interesting and Money Mark's keyboards didn't really help much.

Ya know it's a classic when the hiphop kids at school (all they listen to is modern rap/hiphop) love a song that's not modern hiphop. One of their favorites is "No sleep till Brooklyn"
