I picked up a Crate PowerBlock 150. This one cool little power amp. I don't have a pair of speakers to run it into, but I am going to see what I can find so I can run the Vamp through it to proper speakers.

I just want to make sure not to cause damage to my Ampeg lol. I got the volume on the V Amp set At 9 o'clock and it's loud! The gain is about the same on most of my presets

I've been asked to audition for a semi-pro Metallica tribute band. Right now I'm having a lot of fun rehearsing with the V-amp Pro for the audition. It nails the studio tone of Newsted (I must admit this isn't very hard), but with the distortion engaged it does the blurry Burton tone very well too. All in 1 box!

If I land the gig, I might use it on stage. A complete different tone with just a flick of the switch. Why not?

Hello, this is my first post in this thread ! This thread has been very helpfull to me , so I have decided tot participate !

I am planning to build a rig, just like CharlieC did : A GATOR 19 inch case ( 4 units ), with the V-amp-Pro and a power-amplifier.
Last week I have bought the Behringer V-amp-pro, and I am impressed by its sounds and possibilities .

The next step is to look for an amplifier. Is there anyone here who can give me some advise ? I am thinking of a Behringer EPQ2000 - € 229,- ....is 140,- cheaper then the Crown XLS1000 ( € 369,- ) , or... other suggestions ?

May I ask you some questions ? As a newbie in the V-amp-pro world, and as a " builder of a new rig " , I have found this thread in this forum. And it is really inspiring and helpfull !

But now, I have some questions which I would like to address to you ( you are the expert !! )
I am really considering to build the same rig as yours : V-amp-pro and a crown XLS1000 or XLS1500 .

Can you help me with the method of connecting all the involved devices... ?

In short this would be the setup :

bassguitar-> v-amp-pro ->crown-xls1000->cabinet(s)
and of course
v-amp-pro ->mixer

Can you tell me how you configered / connected the v-amp-pro / crown xls1000 /cabinets/ and mixer ... ?

It's really confusing, so many possibilties... mono/stereo/bridge mode ... mono/stereo? to the cabinets, mono/stereo? to the mixer

I hope that you can find some time to explain this kind of connection/settings issues...

Maybe this subject is interesting for all "thread readers" ... If so, feel free to post it as a thread-item. But, to start with, I have chosen to contact you by this private message to get in touch with you as soon as possible.

Regardless, let me try to help you here now

V-AMP Pro, set to operating mode "L3", connected with one, quality, short 1/4" patch cable from either of the unbalanced line outs on the V-AMP to the Crown XLS 1/4" input on the first channel

Now, the XLS 1000, set to bridge mono mode, channel 2 is not used at all, hence connection of V-AMP to first channel on the Crown, set XLS channel 2 input attenuator knob to ZERO, set the channel 1 attenuator accordingly, considering the volume which you play... i.e. you should always try to reach "noon time, 12 o'clock" on the V-AMPs MASTER VOLUME knob, then set the XLS channel 1 attenuator accordingly

Special bridge speaker cable needed to go from XLS to bass speaker cabinet

For connection to mixer, run either one or two XLR cables from the V-AMP's XLR outs to the mixer's XLR inputs. Since operating mode is "L3", the V-AMP's XLR outs will feature the Ultra-G cabinet sim

Let me summarize...and allow me : 2 additional questions ...


1. V-amp-Pro in Live 3 mode

2. V-amp-Pro line out ( question-1 : L or R, it does not matter ? ) --> with short 1/4" patch cable --> the Crown XLS1000 1/4" input CHANNEL ONE

3. XLS1000, set to bridge mono mode , input channel 2, volume set to zero ( = not used )

4. XLS1000 Output channel 1 --> with special bridge speaker cable --> bass speaker cabinet

5. V-amp-Pro DI output XLR --> one or two XLR cables --> XLR input mixer
question-2 : which DI-output on the V-amp-pro should I use in case of using just ONE XLR-cable to the mixer ?
( I hear the technician saying : "Hee you are a bassplayer, just give me a mono signal" ;-) )

With regards to both questions above ^^^

If the V-AMP is feeding a mono (or bridged) amplifier, you can use either one of the Unbalanced 1/4" outs (Left or Right)

If the V-AMP is sending a signal to a mixer's mono input, you can use either one of the Balanced XLR outs (Left or Right)

The V-Amp-Pro is a stereo device , and in this situation, I will be using just ONE channel.

Suppose I connect the V-Amp-Pro with one cable to the crown xls1000...I am afraid to lose 50% of the sound. I will be sending just the half of the sound ( sending just ONE channel to the amp ) ...

Or does the V-amp-pro automatically switches to a certain MONO mode , as it recognizes a one-cable ( one channel ) output ... ?

Both sides offer 100% output. You don't lose/gain output going mono or stereo, you just gain the "stereo" sound of two sources going to the same place. Mono is like one big speaker in the middle while Stereo is like two speakers on either side of you, but putting out the same volume as the single one was.

Ok, I think I know what you both mean :

If there is NO stereo effect in my sound, there is NO difference in the sound ... correct ?

but :

If I select the stereo chorus-delay, then the effect will appear as a mono effect , instead of a stereo effect... ( stereo chorus-delay often "travels" from left channel to right channel ) ...

May I summarize :
When my setup is "bridged" ( using one channel ) , then the only "sound loss" is a stereo loss ( in case of a selected stereo effect ) .

Correct ?

Shouldn't both the XLR and 1/4" outputs be the same signal when in S1 mode?

They sound vastly different to me.

If that's expected then which of the modes will?
