Ben Lindsey Hot Rod Jazz Build

I've spent a lot more time with this bass over the last week. It's definitely one of the nicest vintage-style jazz basses I've played. I lowered the action some so it plays nice and fast with minimal buzz. The tone is fat and very responsive to touch. I love it! And the looks, well, it's how my dream jazz bass looks in my head. Darn near perfect! :D I can't get over how light and well-balanced it feels. It's simply an incredible bass and Ben did an amazing job with this one. ;)

With that said...

You wouldn't believe my situation right now. It's actually the reason I haven't posted in a week or so. I recently bought a newer low mileage car (Mustang), so that I could just make payments and not have to worry about it breaking down or requiring repair costs for the near future. Guess what happened... my clutch went out. :rollno: It cost me 1500 bucks. Ouch! Needless to say, since I just bought the car not that long ago and put money down on it, I have no money. Furthermore, during this same week, I found out that I'm not going to have a job here in a couple of months, and that we're all being scaled back to part time in the interim to save money. The company I do IT work for is going to another vendor who costs less, because they outsource their work overseas (to people who barely speak English, aka Dell). Lovely. In addition to all of that, I'm moving in the end of June and have to come up with first/last month's payment and a sizable security deposit. The circumstances couldn't be worse for me financially.

I've got two basses at the moment, but I can't sell my 5-string, because I absolutely need that low B in all of my bands. And my 5 stringer is actually the cheaper of the two and wouldn't net me a significant amount of cash anyway.

It kills me, after all this, that now I'm going to have to put up my dream jazz bass for sale for a substantial loss. :crying: I'm not sure when I'll be able to afford another one like it. It depends on what kind of job I can find in the coming months. I know that when I do get another one, I'll have Ben Lindsey build it for me again. Sad day. You'll be seeing this beauty in the classifieds soon. :bawl:

Here are some additional pics I took today with my iPhone. It looks a little brighter red in the pics than it does in real life, btw.

Here, you can see how tight the neck pocket is.

And for contrast, you can see how much darker the red looks in this lighting.

Beautiful! The Dakota Red looks amazing and the dark rosewood board looks incredible. The relic is tastefully done as well. It's so easy for the relicing to get out of hand and yours show a nice amount of restraint. Bravo!

Well you are in a tough situation, i feel kinda bad since i have your ex Fender 5.

I hope things turn around before you post it for sale. How about some clips before getting rid of it?

I might be able to make some clips before. I'm pretty busy this week, but I'll see where we can fit some time in.

I hope you like that Fender as much as I did. If I would've bought it in a 4-string config I probably never would've sold it. But I like my 35" B strings too much. I think those Am Dlx's are a great alternative to the higher priced Sadowskys. If you can find a used one and a good set of aftermarket pickups, you can have one killer modernish jazz bass at a really affordable price, IME.

Could not have said it better!

Finally, some pics!

She ships out tomorrow morning and should be here around Thursday just in time for Friday's gig. She looks pretty gorgeous if you ask me. :smug: I'll try and get some more pics of her when she comes in.
