Bergantino AE212; Part 2!!

In that case, it should be more like 8" from a wall for the AE cabs, as I think the ports are 4" if I recall correctly.
Ill start by saying I love Jims cabs and other than the walkabout thats all I own. How does the AE212 compare to the HT322. I love that cabs high end but I cant fit it into my car and only move it to gigs with a truck. I had a Mesa 212 which I like but its also a big square plus I Like the Bergs high end better. Any thoughts?
I had an HT322 for a couple years and gigged with it a LOT. A few things;
1. It was stupid heavy. Killed my back. But God I Loved the sound!
2. It was the most glorious sounding cabinet once I hit a certain volume. Below that volume, it was good, but not nearly as impressive and when I gave it some juice. (I was using an Ashdown ABM500 EVO head at the time)
3. It was rather Hi-Fi, a bit mid scooped. I was into that clarity of sound and a sort of modern tone.
4. It craved lots of power and that made it punchier and even better sounding.
Enter my AE410 (similar to the AE212, but not quite as extended in the lows and the AE410 has a more aggressive midrange) I LOVE this cabinet actually more than my former HT322. Alone and solo, the HT322 was a bit scooped and had a much sweeter, smoother mid-to-high range transition.
But I find the AE punches and actually works better in the band mix ...all the time. I expect the AE212 will follow suit, but in a smoother way.
In the AE lineup, I would expect the AE212 to be the closest thing to the HT322 ...and your back will thank YOU!
+1 to every point (I had the modular HT322... the 'HT210s/HT112s stack or whatever those were called). Great 'hi fi' type tone (meaning big lows, smoothed and somewhat scooped mids, and very hi fi/crystal clear clean lower and upper treble).
The AE212 would make most HT322 users happy... still big down low and crisp up top, more mid punchy, but not in the over the top way the AE410 is.
While I love my AE410, I think the AE212 is the finest box that Jim has ever made, regarding voicing, weight, look, maximum volume, sensitivity, etc.
Depending on your tone goals (DOYTG) -- should be a caveat inserted in just about every post on talkbass.
I know KJung uses that qualifier a lot.
My favorite quality in a bass cab is punch.
I think a certain amount of punch can be EQ'd in, but it is optimum IME if the cabinet has a lot of punch to start with.
I haven't auditioned any of the AE cabs yet, but based on clips I've heard, I much prefer the AE410 over the AE212 just based on my tone preferences related to punch.
What I don't like is aggressive upper mids, BUT also IME it works better to cut some frequency range that to boost others.
This also favors the AE410 for me (of course, as long as the head or preamp I'm using has the capability of doing the right EQ tweakage).
I would agree with Ken (again, just based on clips) that the AE212 is more balanced sounding than the AE410, but for my tone goals playing with a band, I'm pretty sure that the AE410 would get my mojo rising in a very good way.

+1 My post was primarily for the HT322 guy.... the AE212 is kind of a 'better' version of that sort of vibe to my ear...a 'better HT' cab. I would think most using the HT112ER/112EX stack would be quite pleased with the AE212 also. Quite different from the 2 x AE112 stack.. bigger, smoother, fatter.
Per your point, if you want to punch and hammer... the AE410 is king of the hill.

I find this particularly interesting, considering I've found the AE210 to be a near perfect stand alone 2x10 cabs for my needs. This little box never ceases to amaze me.
For all I know, it could just be a different colored badge, or whatever
. Might be very minor... I haven't heard any specifics other than it is being 'redesigned'.

The AE210 is going to be reoriented, much like a smaller version of the AE212, so that it stands "tall" instead of "wide." From what I understand, it should sound/perform exactly as it has before.
While I like the idea of the 210 redesign in a standalone configuration. I think in a dual 210 situation, I would want the "old style". Oh well, I'm sticking with the 212 anyway.

Right, and to be absolutely explicitly clear on this, he's literally moving the feet/cups to the short sides, and hes' moving the handles and "B" route to the long sides, but the dimensions of the cab, speaker placement, crossover, etc, everything else about the cab, it's components and voicing, is the exactly the same.
Yeah, given a choice, I'd prefer the new ones, but I've already got stacking corners on mine (just like the HS used to have) so I just have the very minor inconvenience of handle placement. It always seems to be the case. I get my Nordy vJ5, then Carey comes out with the classic series. I get my AE210, then Jim goes ahead and changes that design (for the better?). It never fails. That is what I get for being an early adopter I guess...

From what the guys reported above, very small deal. Just a tweak. I wouldn't even think about it!
No, I didn't plan to for numerous reasons. I'm happy with what I have, I'm just saying it always seems that when I get something good, they always figure out a way to make it better.
