Bergantino B/Amp at NAMM

I have a question which I haven't seen addressed, if it has please excuse. Let's say you're running your CN 210 plus your NV 115 or whatever combination,.... I know I know don't shoot the questioner please, can you get two different tone prints simultaneously through the two outputs? If you can't I would see this as a seriously limiting factor for a lot of folks. I have different iterations of 12s although I do have an AE 112 as well as an AE 212. There has been a couple of times on outdoor gigs I've run 4 12s. Inquiring minds want to know.

It would have to be a stereo amp (or dual mono) for that to work, and I'm 99% sure it has just a single power amp. But that sounds like a useful feature for a "2.0" version of the amp -- except that people using just a single cab would then only be using half the potential power.

No, you can use only one preset. Putting a different preset on each of the outputs would probably require a significant change in the hardware in addition to the software. It's getting a bit late for hardware changes. However, there are presets for two NV115s, two HD210s, two HD112s, two CN112s and two CN210s. If I were going to mix cabs (but I wouldn't), I'd set the preset to "None," and use the 4-band EQ to get my sound, possibly adjusting the frequency centers if necessary. Jim will probably kill me for saying this, but I believe it's hypothetically possible to create a preset for an NV115 plus a CN210. Maybe. Hypothetically. Sorry Jim.

That would be a different amp. Going from one power amp to two is a big jump.

Looks like it will only optimally work with two matching cabs, that's disappointing. I know I could use it with my two AE cabs (Or do I ) but not with anything else, bummer. So this makes me wonder if it will work with two different size cabs as in my two AE's, a 112 and 212...anyone know the answer to that?
Well, the amp will work fine and sound excellent with those combinations - it's just that you won't have presets for them and you'll have to adjust the EQ to your taste. The amp sounds as good or better than any other amp through his cabs without even engaging the presets. Think about it - you've never used an amp that had speaker presets. There are countless testimonials to how great Jim's cabs sound with all kinds of the now old-style, pedestrian analog amps (naw, naw, naw - I kid). The presets are there to even out any bumps in the cab's innate frequency response, not that they're significant in his cabs. So what starts out sounding really good ends up sounding great. The good news is that if you want to use the 8-ohm AE112 with the 4-ohm AE212, you just switch the amp to 2.7-ohm mode and go to town. The same goes with mixing cabs with different speaker sizes, subject to the potential foibles of doing such a thing under any circumstances. (I have heard rumours that there will be presets for the AE series some time after the release of the amp - no time estimate).

Not to disagree, but for the sake of argument it seems a bit shortsighted not to have the ability to have two presets as this seriously limits the salability of this rig. To my mind the fact that it has basically a computer built in its not a stretch to think you might come up with a way to do it. But maybe not with only a single amp section. Looking on the bright side I can totally stop GASsing over this amp. WHEW, that's a relief......of sorts. I guess if I ever get two perfectly matched cabs I can revisit this. Or perhaps the V.2 will be dual output. Sadly I'm afraid this will really cut into sales. Of Course I wish Jim nothing but success with it.

OK, here's a little mild sacrilege (hoping Jim's not reading). This amp is accurate, clean sounding and even through the frequencies. It will sound great through many non-Bergantino cabs. Don't think that you have to buy a package if you don't currently have any of Jim's cabinets. I've pointed out that the feature set does a lot of things, but it is first and foremost a premium amp with simple 4-band EQ on its face. You can use it just like any amp you've used in the past, but then you can dig into the features that appeal to you. So don't let the absence of speaker presets bother you - you don't have them on any of your amps now, and this amp is as good or better than most even without the features.

I disagree. Has the lack of speaker presets caused you not to buy any other amp? Which of your other amps prevent you from using unmatched cabinets?

There are waiting lists for the amp. It's a mono amp. Your suggestion is not practical with a mono amp, and there really is no reason to have two presets. As I've said, the presets fine-tune specific cabs, but are not essential to the ultimate performance of the amp. You could sit around and conjure up all kinds of things that could be done with a digitally-operated amp, but you have to stop somewhere. You know, you might say he should create presets for all other popular cab brands and models. That's not going to happen, but the amp will sound great through many other builders' cabinets, just like many non-digitally-controlled amps do.

Jim has put a lot of thought into how it will function and is refining it to this day. By the time it hits the street, it will the most versatile amp available, and one of the best-sounding, to boot.

I haven't heard any talk of a V.2. Version one isn't even on the street.

If one's conscious enough about perfect speaker efficiency and linear response, one's got no logical choice but to use 2 identical cabs in the first place anyway.

If sales fly, I'm pretty sure there will be a 2x700w version in the future.

Think about it - you've never used an amp that had speaker presets.
Speak for yourself ! I've got an IP112 behind me at every show.

I wouldn't look for a stereo amp at NAMM this year. Designing and producing a completely new kind of amp is a LOT of work.

The IP112 is preset for itself, though.

Well not immediately of course but with so much R&D invested, you can bet there will be other products in the range in the future.

Let's hope there won't be software bugs, it's the most dangerous issue with this kind of gear. You know, amp getting stuck producing a loud noise and needing to reboot in the middle of a show.
Early Line6 users know what I'm talking about.

Please don't get me wrong Munji, I have NO doubt that this is a great amp and a significant step forward in amp tech. I would never presume to think he would do presets for anyone else's cabs. I hope and actually believe this will be very successful. I'm in no way dissing the amp. Simply thinking out loud. By the time I get around to being able to get one of these I may have matching cabs and if not I would probably sell some to make that happen. Again I'm on "your" team or our team as the case may be. I do own 4 bergs already. .

The difference with this amp is that if there is a software bug, the update can be posted online, you download it from the site and upload it to the amp. Not during your gig, of course. I can say that the amp has been and is undergoing extensive testing and fine-tuning. So far, no major hiccups.
