Bergantino B/Amp at NAMM

Well, it's not quite the same level of slam. The B-Amp starts to clip at some point where the DB-751 would still have more to give. But we're comparing a 55 lb lead sled to a 6.5 lb Class D head...

The point where the B-Amp starts clipping is really loud. It's almost certainly louder than I would ever have call to use. In my loudest musical situation (which is a very loud, small-club rock band where I sometimes have to fill the room with no PA support), it should be more than enough.
I can't read Bucephylus' mind, but to me 'slam' is about the quickness or concussiveness of the low end (somewhat apart from the volume level, though would probably have to be at least room-filling volume level to get to the concussive part of it).
In those terms, how would you say the two amps compare?

The B-Amp is the first Class D head where I have been impressed with the quickness. If that quickness is missing, that's usually when I start feeling a bit invisible on stage and reach for the volume knob (and usually become entirely too loud).

Hi all,

Is the B/amp available now in the USA? BassClub Chicago seem to have4 in stock. Are there already some people playing with it? I'm from Germany so I will have to wait a bit longer... I have two HD112 since a few months and can't be more satisfied. I play with either a Walter Woods Blue Light or a MarkBass Tube 800. Anybody can compare one of this heads with the B/amp?
Best regards - Christoph

Sorry, I missed your post. But, yes, that's about it. We use these terms on here; but, in many cases they aren't very helpful. All I can say in this case is try putting a DB750/751 on top of an NV610; and then what you hear, that's what I am calling "slam." Also, as stated, there are aspects of that sound I don't personally care for.

That probably doesn't help, but best I can do.

Not quite the same experience, but I did audition a DB750 with a GS210 on top a GS112 and yeah, I think that qualifies as 'Slam' (one of the big Berg NV cabs ~or HT322 - which I gigged for a few years~ would be more so, I'm sure, though).

Sure. Running that amp into 4 ohms would give the general idea. So, you know.

I also only auditioned that amp; and then returned it. In fact, I couldn't get it back in the shipping box fast enough. Although the slam, or as you more accurately put it, the concussiveness was there, I did not care for the wooliness. Maybe that is somewhat a lack of quickness. I don't know; but, didn't care for it. I have zero doubt the B/Amp will be quick and not so wooly.

I think that's what they have available from their pre-order. It's hard to read on my phone but they have a note saying they have two available for pre-order that will be from the first production run and the rest will be from the second run.

No one has a production model in stock. There are a few prototypes floating around out there.

Can't remember if I mentioned this. Being that cab profiles are, if I understand right, easily update-able, making it so users could devise profiles for non-Berg cabs could be cool. Just a thought.

Good question - if it has somewhat generic DSP type settings that can be user controlled & possibly saved - in addition to the Berg-specific cab settings, that would be Very Cool!

Well, I suppose that would be possible if you had an anechoic chamber, a good RTA mic, the requisite analytical software and knew where to place the mic. You'd also have to know how to code the settings into the firmware. The profiles are not just EQ settings adjusted to make it sound good to your ear. They are based on analysis of the cabinet's acoustic characteristics and adjust the amp's output to optimize the frequency response of the cab.

Ultimately, you can adjust the EQ frequency centers and levels for a particular cab to use as your starting point and save it into one of the amp's two memories. Then just call it up at your gig and do any adjustments necessary for the venue.
