I like to think of 'slam' as punch with the heft,weight,iron to the note, and ideally across the whole range of frequencies, such that is doesn't thin out too much on the high end. You can have volume and punch and all that, but without some heft there along with the punch, there really is no slam factor, and thus the dynamics that make bass really what bass is meant to be..IMO..is missing.
