Not yet, but I have no reason to doubt that it would work very well.

It seems to do its job just fine. No issues, but then again, I have channel by channel control over my phantom power on my board, so I don't know if that is an issue.

Thanks for the info. I'm definitely leaning towards the Fender, maybe because it's something different. It sounds like they have put alot of thought into it.

The phantom shouldn't be an issue with the DI in the pre but it is very handy with the Countryman since it's either battery powered or phantom. You have to open it up to replace the
9V.

The SVP-CL is pretty versatile. It has a flat setting (to which you can then EQ bass/mid/treble with a selectable mid frequency) in addition to four other main settings, so depending on how they set the SVP-CL, it could be colored. And as Tom says, the bass will very much color the sound as well.

I don't know why the SVP-CL you think sounds muffled on basstasters. It didn't didn't list all the settings they used so I can't say what setting may or may not make it sound like that for you. The other thing I can say is well ... the Ampeg has that Ampeg sound. You either really like it or you don't. As someone who has been a lifelong Ampeg user/owner of their vintage gear, I do. It's definitely not for everyone. The SVP-CL is as close as Ampeg has come to that vintage Ampeg sound in their modern stuff.

IMHO it depends on what you want in a pre with gain using the IP series. If you essentially want a passthrough so you get just the sound of your bass, a basic setup will do. If you want more tonal shaping abilities, any number of things will do. The Tube MP I bought is more of the former, and the Ampeg is the latter. Both sound great and have different applications.

anywho, anyone thought of using an SVT-DI with one of the IPs?

I'm with you on the Ampeg stuff. I own an SVT-3PRO and have owned a 4PRO also. That's why I was surprised at the sound on the site. My 3PRO doesn't really sound like that, even with no EQ.
Psychicpet, you might want to wait on the SVT-8PRO. It's supposed to be out now, but haven't heard of any being around yet. SVT pre with Class D power, 1600W@4ohms and weighs 22lbs.

You're going to love it -- I looked at completed listings, and you got a really good price, too.

There's nothin' else like an IP 310.

Heck, on the off chance that it isn't your cup of tea, you could almost certainly sell it for at least what you paid, too. Good deal!

Well, unless you have an active bass - which you can plug directly into the IP - you need a pre with a gain stage.

The pre sound you want is subjective to your tastes. Because I was unsure which way I wanted to go, I started with the basic ART Tube MP which has a real tube in it. For $45, I couldn't beat it. It's a much more laid back sound, and definitely not an Ampeg sound.

I did want a better preamp, so in poking around, and being an Ampeg guy (which is where all of this started a few years back when I joined a gigging rock band; my B-25B + 2x15 was too big and heavy and not loud enough), I read up on the SVP-CL. I was a bit wary since I did own the B-15R and the only vintage vibe it had going on was its looks. Totally modern sounding tube amp.

The SVP-CL sounds like the old Ampeg sound (as close as you'll get IMHO), so for me, it's a perfect match for the IP. I'm keeping the Tube MP since it's a cheap DI box and sounds decent for what it is, but for rock gigs, it's the SVP-CL all the way.

So if you are an Ampeg guy, that's what I recommend. It took me all of two seconds to dial in my tone.
