An AC30 would last about 5 min running a bass
McCartney really did use an AC30 Super Twin head to power the T60 speaker.

No Way in this world! Hofner + VOX AC30B = McCartney. Followed by a VOX T60 then VOX AC100.
Paul
the ct is a little more deluxe, but the icon is an actual hollowbody whereas the ct is a semi-hollow, so i preferred the icon. This is my first attempt at posting something on TalkBass so excuse me if I'm not doing this correctly or in the right spot. I'm primarily a jazz player but am interested in purchasing a Hofner. Either the Icon or the Comtemporary CT model. Would any of you have any recommendations in this decision. I would like to get as close to that acoustic upright sound as I can. I know you can never duplicate it.
How about the Extended Range AC30 as i believe it was called?
Something like the AC30 amp + 2x15's.
fair enough. but i still prefer a true hollowbody over a semi.A lot, i would say...![]()

I think you are talking about the AC30 Top Boost. Just a regular AC30 with the addition of an extra tube and treble and bass controls. First versions had these controls sticking out through a hole in the back.

it's better to look good than sound good? hey, i'm all about a good look but even i wouldn't go that far.Me too. But unfortunately i also think the aesthetical look is of primary importance.

(met Richard and Justin Harrison while there.)
i do like 15"s and no tweeter, but i've also gotten very fat sounds in that realm micing my svt 210av and my old flatback 810, so that's a generalization i can't go along with.I used to play in a band(a few shows as a substitute), they had a hofner club 500 and the ran it through a ampeg b200r, sounded nice to me, very thumpy warm and vintage and all that stuff. Here how it sounds recorded, Link Removed
Imho to reproduce that vintage sound stay away from 10' speakers. To get that vintage thump you need 15' or even 18' speakers and no tweeter.
