best delay pedal in your opinion

I'm in the process of choosing the delay pedal right now. Malekko ekko 616 LoFi seems to look nice (as far as i can judge based on youtube reviews), but there's a thing I wanted to ask:
anyone here uses boss dd-3 or dd-5? I've seen these pedals in Chancellor's and Caxide's pedalboards (possibly, my fav bassists). suppose it's older, japanese versions.

My choice is the TC Nova Delay, but it has to be the iB Modified version (the red one). The buffer in that pedal is sooooooooo good with bass. I'm a huge delay fan and have had so many I've lost count, but this has been the longest serving by far. LOVE IT.

I replaced my Digitech Digidelay with echo park - huge difference. First thing I noticed was a lot of character added to my delay tone. Tape mode is really really awesome with the flutter effects. 8th notes mode, swell mode, reverse.. It all brought a lot of cool stuff to the table. It really sounds amazing if you're into dirtier side of delays (I never use the digital mode, I'm not into clean delays but it also works awesomely). I love the Line 6 DL4 and this is the closest thing in such a small package (and some say it even sounds better, fuller, richer).

Boss delays sound very good. The DD-20 is really good, can do some really cool stuff. The delay I keep coming back to however is the Hardwire DL8. It's pretty simple, does analog and tape modeling, 20 second loop, small footprint, but the best is the 8 second delay mode. When the feedback knob is maxed the delay loop has no decay and doesn't record so you can play over your loop, nudge the knob back down and build more layers etc. I'm sure there are many more gourmet analog tones out there but I'm a little obsessed with this evolving loop sound. The DD20 can do it too but it has twice the footprint and cost significantly more.

I've got three 80's boss delays: DM-2, DM-3, DD-3 (the first version with the large power adapter and big chip.) They're old gorgeous pedals, the analog pedals are dark and rich, and the DD-3 is a little lighter. My favorite delay pedal ever has to be the DM-3. Even if there's no signal coming through the input (aka your bass is muted because you're tuning) if you flick the feedback knob, you can get the pedal to self-oscillate and control the feedback to almost "dub-step-like" noises.

Digitech Timebender. Can do SO much. And it can store 9 settings.

Check out the videos for it....it my secret space weapon....pitch shifting, harmonized delays, looper, reverse solo, analog mode, ducking, etc etc. up to 6 multitaps ( and you can program the multitap rhythm AND the key of the harmonies AT THE SAME TIME ON YOUR GUITAR!!!!! Unbelievable....)

It does SOOOOO much more than a delay pedal....you can explore it for weeks.

As a simple, single digital delay it's incredible too. It's does too much for some people though....

It does about 10 times more than the DD-20 and sounds better too. No contest. Check it out. I can't believe it hasn't been mentioned yet....

I'll give you two out-of-the-box answers:

(1) Eventide Pitchfactor. It can do straight delay if you set it right. I LOVE the pitch-shifted delay.
(2) Any sort of reverse delay, it's my other favorite delay effect. My M5 and Zoom G9.2tt (for guitar) both do it well.

"Best" is of course very subjective and depends on what you value ... for me, weighing in price, size and bang-for-buck as well as a decent sound, and possible future updates via the Toneprint function, I chose the TC Electronics Flashback.

I have the DD-3 and LOVE it. Surprised that it hasn't been mentioned more. I don't care about or need tap tempo or all the bells and whistles. I need a delay to delay and that's what the DD-3 does. It's got some cool slap back/semi-reverb tones at the shorts delay settings and the hold function I like and have used many times live for noise and segues and that stuff.

@jewbageled - I'm guessing you'd choose the DM-3 over the DM-2? I've been looking at both of these for a while and keep going back and forth. What else do you like about the 3 vs. the 2?
