The ones that inspire me to play differently... but if I had a top 5??? maybe?? This thread is a trap... here we go:

Compressor: Cali76 Compact Bass
Octave: 3leaf Octabvre
Fuzz: Tall Font Russian (although the Catalinbread Giygas currently lives on my board)
Overdrive: Walrus Audio 385
Reverb/Ambient Textures: Walrus Audio Slö

Throw a tuner on this board and I'm good to go!

Well for obvious reasons C4 synth is making me smile through the pandemic!
And my JHS compression does the job I expect it to do and I haven't looked any other way since I got it.

But the 1 pedal that I just dumb-luck stumbled on that I would not sell for 5X what I paid for it and would instantly replace if it got damaged is the Wampler Fuzztration. It's happiness in a box. It's an ocean of awesome angst. And I bet there aren't many bassists using it. That's cool, there are tons of great second place options.

This has intrigued me... unfortunately I just bought a fuzz; and I couldn't imagine ever taking my Octabvre off of my board. Which JHS comp are you using? I have a Cali but just bought a Pulp N' Peel for my Acoustic/Small bass pedalboard

I'm using the Pulp N' Peel 4. Really happy with the transparency. I run it pretty light and seems to even things up nicely without any squish. And yes, that Wampler is a rare bird and no good demos for bass, only bari guitar. But there's a boutique tone shop near me so I could check it out. Been looking at the Octabvre too, the octave on the fuzz pedal isn't a sub for an octave pedal. Just makes the fuzz layered. My SA EQ2 is showing up today so maybe I'll be done buying stuff for a while, whatever.

Distortion and overdrive. Despite my TB handle, I realized that I don't care for fuzz. :bag:

I love my gear when run clean, but love it better dirty: overdrive at minimum, distortion for rock, and heavy distortion for heavy rock -- the latter often achieved by stacking 2 or 3 distortion pedals.

I own over a dozen distortion pedals that I love. If you push me for favorites, I'd have to say my multi-band distortions (these typically distort highs/high mids while leaving lows/low mids clean): Tech 21 DP-3X, Darkglass X7, Brimstone XD-2. But I love swapping distortion pedals from gig to gig -- simply for variety.



Every so often I will also use compression. I do this to give my rig the "pushed amp" sound at low volume. But it's a nice-to-have, not a must-have, so I usually don't bother (I'm a K.I.S.S. guy).

This covers it for me!! One pedal that I don’t see any love for that is a staple on my board is the Vox Trike! It’s an amazing octave fuzz, it does -2,-1 and +1 and it has a gain control to go really blown out or back it down and it tightens up like a muff. The octaves are almost pog like but always are pre fuzz I always only use the up side for with the -2 barely cracked in to fatten it up a bit. For lower octave drive and fuzz I’ll use one of my octave pedals and my dirt

Fortunately I have not fallen too far down this rabbit hole. I have used a EBS compressor for about 20 years. That's it. I have a few other effect pedals but I've never used them on a gig.
