I find myself using this on a surprising number of occasions:
"No one knows who they were... or.... what they were doing..."![]()
It is incredibly awesome that they included that quote!I took this picture while at Stonehenge; the lady friend did not find it as amusing as I did.

That's amazing! That really elevates Tap to their proper historical context.I took this picture while at Stonehenge; the lady friend did not find it as amusing as I did.
Sorry, but if Nigel says Dubly, it's Dubly. Not disagreeing with your post source. Fact 1, the YouTube clips are often labeled "Dubly".
The outtakes on the DVD are almost as long, and as good as the main. Bruno Kirby singing Sinatra after they got him stoned in his leopard undies. "that's entertainment""AAHHHaaahhhAAAHHHAaahhh." (Nigel trying to verbally convey the sustain of one of his guitars to Marty DiBergi)![]()
Sorry, but if Nigel says Dubly, it's Dubly.
Actually, that's not true. The white album "The Beatles" embossed on it in the lower right quarter of the cover, and of course there is writing on the spine of the jacket. Mine had a stamped serial number on it in the 100,000 range. Evidently they stamped the first million albums. Here's a shot of #906,258. It's a little hard to see because it is white on white. Perhaps this is what inspired the Spinal Tap choice of black on black on black "Smell the Glove" of 1989.

Not only was it a fantastic, hilarious movie...but quite honestly I’ve always thought the music was actually quite good! Gimme Some Money, Tonight I’m Gonna Rock You Tonight, Rock n Roll Creation, Stonehenge...some pretty cool tunes in there that are at the same time tuneful, creative and self-deprecating. With lyrics to match!
Since the ‘SpinalTap’ movie came out years before Metallica released their black album - I always figured Metallica did it as a joke.Funny story about The White Album cover. There was supposed to be a lot more detail including some stains, but it was scrapped. I think it was going to be too expensive on a pricey package as it was with two records, four gloss photos, and a poster.
So the joke with the cover was that you would have a number on a thing that there were millions of therefore making the numbering ironic since who would care if you had one or the other if there were so many.
They abandoned the numbering system since they realized that they would be unable to coordinate the numbering across the world to avoid having duplicates of a number.
The black album reminds me of Metallica’s mostly black cover with the snake on it. Did they mean to do that?
Right! The songs are pretty well written and period/genre appropriate for the most part. You could slip any song from the soundtrack into a party mix and only the rock musicians would know the gag.Stone Henge is an amazing song. There are some interesting musical things happening in there.
I hope you’re wrong, but I’m afraid you’re probably correct.Right! The songs are pretty well written and period/genre appropriate for the most part. You could slip any song from the soundtrack into a party mix and only the rock musicians would know the gag.
OK, you win. YouTube is accurate and legal consent agreements are incorrect. Now I know.Sorry, but if Nigel says Dubly, it's Dubly.
As a "not joking matter", I got suspended from high school because my hair touched the top of my ears...OK, actually went slightly over that by about 1/4". That would have been 1966 or 67. It was my junior year of high school.May I start by saying how thrilled we are to have you here. We are such fans of your music and all of your records. Not yours personally, but the whole genre of rock'n'roll and the exciting things in music today. Let me explain what's going on. This is our monthly at ease weekend. It gives us a chance to let down our hair, although I see you have a head start! These haircuts wouldn't pass military muster! My hair's getting a little shaggy, too. Better not get too close. They'll think I'm in the band! I'm joking, of course.

Well that's a rough lesson. If it makes you feel better we're all really big fans of your music...As a "not joking matter", I got suspended from high school because my hair touched the top of my ears...OK, actually went slightly over that by about 1/4". That would have been 1966 or 67. It was my junior year of high school.
I had stayed home sick on the Friday and came back to school on Monday. They'd had a school assembly on Friday warning all the boys that they would be suspended if their hair touched their ears on Monday. So everyone was expected to get it done. I didn't get the word, didn't get it done, and got sent to the Dean by my PE teacher on Monday. He suspended me and put an "administrative U" (for unsatisfactory) on my permanent record. Was a realhead.
Got it knocked down from a 4-day suspension to 1-day to get my hair cut, but always resented that jerk. It was a smirking power move by him. Ahhhhhh....the troubles and angst of being a teenager. That might be one of the reasons I wear my hair in a pony tail now... The bad news was that "U" stayed on my permanent record even though they promised to remove it as I found out almost 20-years later when I went back to school part time to work on a Computer Science degree. When I was asked about it and I explained it to them, they laughed .
