best pick to use on a bass

+1 on the Dunlop .88 Ultex. LOVE THEM

I also on occasion use a variety of Fender Medium and Light Triangle picks. I also keep a few Gorilla Cymbolic guitar picks in my case, even though I rarely use them. Great sound, just normally not needed for the things I play.

Oh, and in addition, the Wedgie guitar pick holder is the most freaking awesome invention ever in the history of guitar picks.

i use gatorgrip jazz picks. can't remember if they're 2mm or 1.5mm but for me the feel is awesome.

Another vote for the 1mm Dunlop Nylons.
I don't use a pick much, but when I do, that's my pick of choice.
(I use a pick occasionally for a different sound, just like slap & pop is a different sound and tapping is a different sound.)

hi can someone tell me whats the best type of pick to use on a bass guitar, i have a hofner violin bass which i just recently bought to learn to play, just can get the hang of the finger thing!!! the bloke in the guitar shop gave me a few 2mm plastic ones, are these any good, i heard that felt 1's are good for basses

Fender heavies and extra heavies, great sound and feel good and I'm mainly a finger style player.

I tried a big felt pick when I was a kid (1966-67) didn't like them and haven't seen one since. Do they still make them?

my picks of choice are the dunlop jazz III's- the reds are a bit "warmer", but either are fine for me.

+1 to Dunlop Tortex. If I use a pick it's the Yellow tortex.

Any of those hard plastic picks are too brittle for me and usually end up broken. I probably have 20 of the tortex picks but it seems like I've been using the same one for years.

I like the Dunlop Gator Grips in the .96mm thickness. I find the heavier pick gives me a meatier low end over the thinner picks and the plastic they use on those picks has a little less "clack" than the others.

I like the purple Dunlop turtle picks. I don't know what thickness they are, but they sound great. I am definitley going to be experimenting with some other picks here soon after reading this thread.

I keep an Adamas Graphite 2mm I found on the deck after a Phish show in my pocket. Most of my guitar player friends keep a pick in their pocket, so......
I'm part time local stage hand, so I've got a large assortment to choose from, but I don't use one.

I use Fender Medium triangular picks. They have a nice big gripping surface and you have multiple points in case you break one.

Same here - I typically go through a couple per gig, but they're not expensive - so I buy 'em 5-6 dozen at a time... The mediums give me the attack and tone that I'm looking for...

does any one use dunlop stubby triangles (2mm or 3mm) to play bass? i have got two of these and its really hard for me to play with a pick. this is the first time i am trying to play with a pick anyway
