Tim commerford on rage against the machines first album

I saw RATM on Randalls Island here in New York a few years ago. Tim's live sound was just as incredible as that first album. I was totally amazed..... great tone and attack with that fantastic growl pulling on your stones. BTW: That was one of the best shows I ever saw.

Justin Chancellor has a good sound live too. He's nothing short of amazing as a player, and his sound is a big part. So did the bassist for, believe it or not, Garbage. Years ago I saw them at Roseland in Manhattan and his sound filled the room. So thick and meaty you could have cut it with a sword. But to level the field, I've seen Stanley Clarke about a half dozen times at a small venue we had on Long Island, the IMAC theater, and every time it sucked. I've also seen about 25 other performers there and they have sounded better.


But yeah... Tim's sound with RATM is pretty much my favorite. Good balance between punch and distortion. Love it.

Yup, that's the spot! But not only the break, the whole cut just sounds perfect, IMO, even how he sits in the mix.

Now that you mention it, it does sound quite Ric-like. Another one is Paul Goddard's break on Atlanta Rhythm Section's "Champagne Jam". And I know that's a Ric!
