if I had to choose it would be a Epi Thunderbird. Preferably the white one the bassist from the Silversun Pickups used for the song "panic switch".

I saw them play a few days ago in Oakland, and Nikki's tone blew me away. I've never been a huge fan of Gibson tones, but hearing her Tbird->Ampeg changed my mind.

Eddie from Thrice plays Gibson Grabbers, and every time I've seen them his tone has been amazing as well.

Also, +1 to Nick from DCFC. His tone has always been great.

for me the top three are: Spector bass, I can not remember what model. Ibanez ATK and MusicMan stingray. but one of the greatest sounds are from warwick and fender, and sanberg. I can continue with many but I will not because it is not good

I really liked the sound of Seth Bolt's (of Needtobreathe) Lakland 4-94 (I think). I saw them live in Grand Rapids last November, and his bass tone just was perfect.

Another good one is Garry Tallent's (of Bruce Springsteen's E Street Band). He's had a lot of very different tones over the years, and they never fail to impress me. Saw them live last November, and his tone was phenomenal.

The T-bird is cool but it is way down my list ...
