Best Underrated/Unknown Bassist

Zappa bass players are a good call. i particularly like the work on "apostrophe". i never had the record (always recorded it from my older bro who is a zappa fanatic) so i didn't know the bass players. what tracks does jack bruce play on that album? i had no clue he ever played with zappa.
I'm sorry about the Ruth Underwood playin bass thing,I read the credits wrong..it was supposed to be Dave Parlato...as far as Jack Bruce goes,it does not list what songs Jack played on,but his name is on the(bass) credits along with Erroneous,Tom Fowler and Frank himself...sorry man...

WHos the Double bass player who plays the crazy solo on SLeep Dirt. he says "my fingers Got stuck" at the end of the track.

AJ,which record did it originally appear on?I might be able to find out for ya...a guy named Jay Anderson played string bass on "thing fish". Zappa usually hires the same people for other recordings...just a thought.....

I'll say it again and again, if you havent heard him yet check out NoMeansNo. The closest I can come to describing NoMeansNo is a jazz / punk mixed sort of thing driven largely by some incredible bass lines with melody and tons o' power. He's also the singer.
Mr Wrong is his solo project - him, a bass and a vocal mike and you could swear you're listening to a whole band.

rekesbass, You should check it out its a good album. There a extended double bass solo against a acoustic guitar. Its made in the late seventies I had a vinal version that had no credits.givin the time period it would patrick ohern or arther barrow but I dont know those two to play double bass.

sounds like a rare recording...I'll have to look for that one the next time I'm out. I think all of Zappa's recordings are available on disc now,but that one I don't recall seeing in a record store..I'll have to look into that

Yes, Jack Bruce played on the song Apostrophe'. The double bass player that plays the monster solo on that album is Patrick O'Hearn, but it's during the song "The Ocean is the Ultimate Solution", which immediately follows the song "Sleep Dirt" on the album. On the song Sleep Dirt, the person that says, "my fingers got stuck" is James Youman.
