I think Dee Murray goes largely unrecognized. He played bass on many of Elton John's albums, and I really like the work he did on Honky Chateau in particular.

Also, David Pitzel from Still Life is great.

how'bout the guy from Grand Funk RR(mental block keeps me from remembering his name),yes I'm gonna say Gene Simmons,a real pocket player, (much like Micheal Anthony)who not only sings but also writes most of their material.Sheryl Crow,a great all around musican and song writer,and not a bad bassist(she's nice on the eyes too!)John McVie(spelling?)of Fleetwood Mac...I'm sure I remember more but it's too damn early in the a.m....I'll be back.....

Alex James from Blur is a pretty damn good bass player, who probably doesn't get the respect he deserves on account of him being a bit of a tit. After all, he was the man responsible for Fat Les. (think of a smug, middle-class version of Fieldy's Dreams doing crappy football songs, and you'll be halfway there)

OK, I'm back...heres a few who played with Zappa: Tom Fowler(overnite sensation\apostrophe),Jack Bruce(apostrophe),Erroneous(apostrophe),Roy Estrada,Ruth Underwood(zoot allures)Arthur Barrow(joe's garage\thing fish),Scott Thunes(thing fish & many others)Patrick O'Hearn(same as Scott)..and Frank Zappa himself..he played many Instruments on many albums,but one of my favs is zoot allures,he plays a lot of bass on that record...all but two songs and one is a live recording so it don't really count...I'm sure I left a few out,but this is all the Zappa cd's I can find right now...
