Big E Speakers Part 4 - Quadraphenia

Judging from the number of Flex tops in the TB classifieds (including mine) it seems Mike's latest has piqued the interest of a number of us Flex-ers :D :D :D
I post this following tidbit every so often in hopes of discouraging those who are selling their Flex-es. The combination of my Flex 110 and the MAS 18 is sublime. I am using it with the D800+ as various combinations of the HPF, Voicing, and Deep Switch allow for a huge number of gorgeous tones. Further, to address the concern mentioned above: there is a bunch o' punch to be sure.

When you say it punches and feels visceral, where are you in regards to the cabinet? Does it feel different when you play it by ourself vs a band??

Also, what amp/s gave you paired your MAS to??
I feel the punch from as little as a foot or two away, all the way out to across the room (have hosted a couple of jam nights with it). It has a "hits you in the chest, and moves your booty along" feel that I've looked, listened, and "felt for" for a long time.
It's different when I play by myself only in that I don't ever play at band volumes by myself.
I've used it with a Genz Benz Shuttle 9.0 and a Sonic Farm 2di4 paired with a RAD 1200 ICE amp. They both sound great - and the SF/RAD is blissful.

Yeah, I'm re-thinking the keep-vs.-sell on my Flex. My only reason to replace it is form factor - I have made a decision to drive a convertible and gear space is limited. A B28 would be an easier fit.
That's a *really* first world problem/solution.
Given that there are two other Flexes in the TB classifieds, both priced lower than I would want for mine... Let's just say I'm not hurrying to drop the price for a quick sale.

There is that form factor, to be sure. The Flex will not fit in my Accord coupe's trunk, so it rides up front with me in the passenger seat. Somewhat awkward, but certainly worth it ('til my old creaky body says enough!).

TalkBass is to a large extent a mixture of first world problems and solutions. This I don't mind as long as I keep things in perspective.

After much hemming, hawing, and internal debate, I am shaking up the rigs. Both of my 110 Flexes are on the block...

There has been a lot of discussion lately -- questions, experiences good and bad -- re. the still relatively new and rare Bodai 28 and Bodai 38 Special. I am curious about them, too. I've offered up my experiences with hearing the prototype MAS 18s and playing some of the other cabs (those I own and those I've gotten to try with Mike or with @thumbs&fingers) but, having never seen or heard a Bodai 28 or 38, all I can do where those cabs are concerned is extrapolate from conversations, my experiences with other MAS cabs, and stuff like the published Vd figures -- make educated guesses, in other words. (Fairly educated, I hope, but guesses nonetheless.)

I considered starting a thread to ask specifically about the 8" cabs, but, like a good scout, I used the TB search function and found this one, extant but not very active -- not yet, anyway:

MAS Bodai 28 - Bodai 38 Special and 18 Discussion

I humbly propose that those interested in the 8"-based cabs -- or who have some experiences with them to share -- post in the above-linked thread. It will, I hope, help focus the conversation. Since Mike is able to post in that thread but is, as far as I know, still unable to post in this one due to a past CUP issue, it will be also be a better place to go to get authoritative answers to questions regarding them.

The thread discusses the Bodai 28 and 38 and the MAS 18. Since some have mentioned combining the 18 with other cabs and Mike has mentioned combining it with the Bodai 28 -- and given that it uses the same woofer and waveguide (AFAIK) as the 28/38 and is still a pretty rare bird in its own right (at least on the electric bass side), it seems natural to combine it with the other two 8ers.

Those who've ordered MAS 18s or Bodai 28s (or 38s), maybe you can post your experiences there as well when you get them and have a had a chance to spend some time with them.

Thanks respectfully,
Mark

I saw that. With yours on the block, plus @Dark Barn 's purple monster, I am not expecting mine to move and a putting that on the back burner. Unless some local Bay Area person wants it...

@3rdcurve are doing some horse-trading

So, this happened.....

It was a blast (literally)! I really enjoyed that nice Muckelroy (sp?) through the rigs.
