Um, I liked what I heard from the Bodai 110 when I heard it at Mike's place. I remember it as being very open and natural sounding when driven by his hot-rodded EA Doubler. That's one woofer, albeit with the mids+compression driver section on top. Footprint is very small.

Smaller... there is the MAS 18. That could be had as a comparatively simple two-way cab or a three-way (still simpler than the Bodai).

There are some differences in presentation, I guess, between the multi-woofer "horizontal" cabs like the 46 and the single-woofer "vertical" cabs like my MAS 112, but I still take the 112 out more than anything else and it still kicks ass. Had it out for a raucous 3.5 hours the Friday before last with minimal PA support, no bass in the monitors (per my request), in a loud club with two guitars, keys, sax, drums, aux percussion, and vocals and it was loud without being overbearing, full without being boomy, articulate, and clear as a bell.

I think the Bodai 110 would be in the same ballpark, output-wise as your (or my) 46. Similar Vds, I think. Voicing-wise, the Bodai 110 struck me as being more even and detailed through the mids than the 46 (though the 46 has nice detail -- does really well with harmonics) and less plump in the lows. I didn't hear them side-by-side, but I'm pretty confident in that. Anyway, wouldn't be skeptical based on a cab having a single woofer.

I humbly propose that those interested in the 8"-based cabs -- or who have some experiences with them to share -- post in the above-linked thread. It will, I hope, help focus the conversation. Since Mike is able to post in that thread but is, as far as I know, still unable to post in this one due to a past CUP issue, it will be also be a better place to go to get authoritative answers to questions regarding them.

The thread discusses the Bodai 28 and 38 and the MAS 18. Since some have mentioned combining the 18 with other cabs and Mike has mentioned combining it with the Bodai 28 -- and given that it uses the same woofer and waveguide (AFAIK) as the 28/38 and is still a pretty rare bird in its own right (at least on the electric bass side), it seems natural to combine it with the other two 8ers.

Those who've ordered MAS 18s or Bodai 28s (or 38s), maybe you can post your experiences there as well when you get them and have a had a chance to spend some time with them.

I was at Mike’s this weekend and I ended up ordering two 18 cabs. I should have them in three weeks and will post when I receive them. However, at his place the 18 sounded spectacular.

I was blown away on the sound of the 18. I went to Mike’s thinking that I was walking away with either the Bodai 28 or MAS 28 and ended up with the two 18’s. I am in Chicago and portability is a huge factor. Most gigs I will just need one 8. But liked having two for larger bands.

MAS was well represented at our SF GTG yesterday. The 2 MAS16s were an eye opener for me. Coyoteboy’s NS Designs EUB sounded amazing through them. Amazingly, they sounded great with my AJ Presentation II

Hey Jake. The 2 16's were amazing but not as loud or poppy as the Flex. They were kind of overshadowed by the 18 over on that side of the room - but I wouldn't hesitate to do a 4 string gig with them, and actually they handled the B from coyoteboy's EUB beautifully.

I suspect you would. I really dug the Bodai 28 - dang, that was killing, especially with the 2di4 and RAD power amp. Also, of course, wit the Tantra...

I’ve been negligent again. I heard the MAS 28 at Mike’s a while ago and I forgot to post on it. Mike made one for himself so he would have something small and light to drag to gigs downtown. This thing is only 21” tall and only weighs about 35 lbs. I was interested in comparing it to the Bodai 28 that I have on order. I was blown away again. This tiny thing is as loud and deep as the Bodai and gives up very little in the upper mids and highs. The faital 4 goes to 15k. The dispersion of the upper mids is very good, but the Bodai is better. That’s a slight plus for the Bodai, but the MAS is smaller, lighter, and much less expensive. The truth is the 8” speakers go up nearly flat to 1600 hz. which covers all of the bottom and most of the voicing of a bass. The little cab is louder and deeper than most 15’s and most 2x12’s. It was hard to believe the impact and depth of a low B. This thing is the ultimate cab for portability, sound, and cost.

You make it a tough choice between the two (MAS and Bodai) 28s. Based on what I heard from the prototype MAS 18s and the Bodai 110 awhile back, I suspect that I'd favor the Bodai 28 over the MAS, but the form factor and cost of the MAS 28 are hard to argue with - with a tweeter, I don't think it would be lacking anything in a full range cab -- for EB or for other instruments.
