Big E Speakers Part 4 - Quadraphenia

For a cab to replace my Flex I really wanted the "mids in their own vortex". So for me the B28 was a pretty clear choice. And still small enough to make for an easy carry.
Hard to go wrong either way, though.

Simple solution to all...Bodai 28 stacked on a mas 28 lol...but seriously I would like to hear that
Have put my b28 through a couple very loud bar gigs and this cab can carry the band and not get lost in mix at all...had a fellow musician walk in during our set and at break made a bee line to me to tell me the very first he noticed when he walked in (and when he was outside lol) was my bass sound..his words were dominant but so clear and zero mud...really makes a guy look forward to each gig I can tell you that

Through a series of non-unfortunate events, I have begun piecing together a new rig of my very own. Specifically, an Ampeg B-1, a 362 sonic maximizer (why not? It works...) and an old Crown Micro Tech 1200 (going in for repair). My church purchased my Mesa 400/fridge rig from me and I've been ampless since that time.

I had a lead on two Acme B2's but it disintegrated. I'm hoping to do some hustling in the near future and think that a Flex or a Flex Mod (used) would make for a nice stand for my new equipment. That or a MAS112, but I'm leaning more towards the width of the Flex being a preferred attribute to leverage.

I'm not so concerned about weight (I could anchor a yacht with that Crown) but fitting the cab(s) in a trunk would be nice. FWIW, your average fridge does fit in the back seat of my '00 Audi A8L (but it won't in my apartment) so something modular, like two 10's, would be better.

So if anyone is on the fence about upgrading their Flex/Flex Mod in the upcoming months, ping me first...

Bodai 28 and 110 NOT at all sucking at the recent Asheville Bass Hang. Wow these cabs sound great! Looking forward to more testing of the cabs, the Tantra (with the Pascal module) and the ICE1200 this weekend.

Shout out to all you Bay Area MAS guys. I’m heading down and will be in the South Bay (also Marin) starting Wed. 23 thru the following wed. Please pm me any gigs you’ll have a MAS cab on that I can attend. I simply must hear one in person. And I would really love to play one as well if I can.
If it’s a jam I will just HAVE to make it to play one finally. Also Mntngrown and Kesslari I’m lookin at you! I’ll probably pop over the hill to see friends in Santa Cruz so if anything is going up there in the hills let me know.

Thanks K, I may well try to do that. Maybe I can manage to coordinate it with a trip to SC.
We’ll see how the schedule shapes up once I get down there. I know I’m going to the Legion Hall jam in Princeton (Half Moon Bay) on Sunday to sit in with some great guys, Steve Evans, Randy Hayes and others. And thanks again for your generous offer of some wankage time.

Traveling so I will not be around, and only have the original 48 now. To me it is not "only" it is the 1st and the best for my style. The 46 was the best small to medium venue but I had too much stuff and sold it. I am going to pull the trigger on the MAS28 when the stars align and my ship comes in this summer. Hope you get a listen while you are down here. I will be honest and blunt as I am much too often for my own good, but when you gig as much as you do and the audiences are happy, then MAS BigE cabs are a step above, but up to you and your band. I was blown away with my 1st and my drummer and lead man really appreciated the step up. But it is a step up that is clear, but not necessary for live performance. I for one, for example, love the Fender Super Bassman I only drag it out when I wish to please me. Don't know who in the crowd cares.

Man, SUPER impressed with this rig last night. The 28 handled plenty of fat lows, extra chewy mids and plenty of high end Woody snap of the p with low tension flats. Played a 90’s cover gig and it did warm and full, grindy and thumpy with ease. Surprisingly loud too, it just kept coming, like I remember the flex doing. Really cool sounding cab that has tone to spare!

A p with flats is always a good equalizer for how a rig performs. This killed it in every way. Super impressed all around.

If I were still playing out, I'd snag a used Monique set it on a 28 Bodai with the 1200w power module. :cool:
