That is actually pretty common these days. Take a low budget recording; re-mix, re-master, and release. Low cost, low risk. If it takes off, put money into the next album. I hope they keep her brother around to produce for her.

Billie Eilish Grammy Sweep

I haven't watched the Grammys since the 1980's. I just don't care for it anymore. But hey, if you like them, enjoy.
I'd go back and give it another listen... but that Grammys show vacated my DVR faster than the world will forget about Billy Eyelids. 
Plus, it's nice to see someone famous that looks baked out of her gourd in almost every picture.
From around '84 to around '90, Aerosmith live was abysmal. Then, suddenly in the early 90s, they became a tight live band again with Tyler singing better than he had since the mid 70s. I remember being astounded when I saw them on MTV Unplugged back then because I remember how bad they sucked in the 80s, especially vocally. Now suddenly, Tyler was a vocal master screaming like a teenager. It even made their crappy sappy songs sound good live.
Now, I'm not talking about their music per se, but their ability as performers. They had lost it in the early 80s, got it back in the early 90s, and now they sound like pure ass. Not regular ass mind you, but Rosie O'Donnell super hairy 70s thicket man-ass.

I must say, and again, caveat, I don't like most modern pop music, and I think rock, more or less, needs to be taken out behind the building and shot, but I don't understand how some people wear pop cluelessness like it's a badge of honor. I'm mostly into ambient/soundscape type stuff now, and even my bass playing's taken a turn towards that. But I'm a musician. I feel like I SHOULD know what's going on, because contrary to what some here believe, good things in music have happened since that remarkably fertile period of '65-'75. If I dismissed electronic music as new age pap or obnoxious EDM, I wouldn't be in what I consider my most fertile and satisfying period in my 34 years of playing. And even through that, I had to listen to a lot of conventional electro to figure out what clicked.
Yes, almost every time I take the time to check out some of these artists, I shrug, or yeah, think it's no better than crap from previous decades, but I don't see how being an out-of-touch fossil is something bragworthy, all why going on about how awesome someone like Eric Clapton or Aerosmith or someone else who's about as exciting as mayo on Wonder Bread is. Some of you don't sound much different than old people in the 60's going on about the Beatles and that long hair they had in '63.
I often think of how Miles Davis would have just been another generic trumpet player, had he taken that approach. And yeah, I can't stand later Miles, but damn, he got it.

It kinda... isn't.
The only performed bit is the vocals, and maybe the bass. Everything else is samples, sequences, drum machines, programming, and so on. There is little emphasis on melody and harmony, it's almost all timbre and rhythm. The live band is 3 people -- Eilish singing, her brother on keys or bass, a drummer, and pre-recorded tracks.
Granted, at least it wasn't written by Dr Luke and Max Martin, like almost every other pop album out there. If you enjoy it, that's your business. But your description just doesn't sound right.

Right, and Thundercat sings like George Duke did 45 years ago, and Flea did a lot of what Louis Johnson and Larry Graham was already doing long before him, but it doesn't make either of them any less awesome or enjoyable.
Billie Ilish is, compared to the rest of the pack I saw last night, a breath of fresh air. She can actually sing, she writes her own music.. including the chord change
