Anyways, I remember someone saying that they were complimented for the Primus tone they had. I kind of want to go in that direction. I really love the Sadhanas body, but need to make sure I don't just order something because of its appearance. If anyone has any suggestions, I'd love to talk with you!

Mark Winkler, the original owner of Sadhana #1, is the one who mentioned being able to get Claypool-like tones out of it. The varitone switches in the basses are incredible when it comes to giving several versatile tones.

As far as ordering - it's as simple as going to their contact page and either calling or e-mailing Scott and Jamie. If you're like a lot of the other customers I know (myself included), there will be a lot of talking about what you want and what they do before you order, so you can get a feel for what you're getting into before you send your first payment.

So call them. Drop me a PM if you want more information or have more questions.

Hey all!

didnt know there was a 'Birdsong club' around here!

I am soon to be birdsong owner! have Cortobass on order (7C-108. you can see it on the client page..the one that's going to India!)

Placed the order sometime in june, and expect it to be delivered i november..

I am really looking forward to my bass..Scott seemed like an excellent guy, and has been very very helpful..I wanted an ultralight bass and scott suggested i go with African Mahogony..

anyone else here have an African Mahogony Cortobass? if yes, how does it sound?!

and hey, how do i become a member of this club?!!

Awesome - congrats. I wish I could tell you anything about the African mahogany, but I know nothing about it from a tonal stanpoint. Scott says it's comparable to the Honduran mahog, so I'm guessing that anyone who can tell you about one can tell you about the other.

Oh - and we have loose membership standards.

On another note - my new favorite tone
My fretless Cortocustom, neck pickup solo'd, through my Bbox (5th position - "the heart") through my Boss CEB-3 (the manual's "vibrato" setting) through my Hartke 112 combo (eq treble at 12, mids at 2, bass at 2).

It's dubtastic!

I have an african mahogany cortobass, and a honduran mahogany sadhana. I have to say the african mahogany one sounds terrible! :bawl:

Just kidding! :D You will love the sound, and yes it will be light as a feather, if you have a "typical" weight longscale bass now, it will be like wearing a feather. Mine only had a single EMG humbucker and no varitone, but i could still get a range of nice tones from it. I ended adding my own varitone to later though.

When i got the Sadhana i put piccolo strings on the corto and it's great tuned like that as well.

I'm just learning some rudimentary image posting/tagging stuff for the first time and felt like using this thread (because I started it and the pictures are relevant to the topic) to practice.

And my Bbox - no idea which number it is. The only tone control for the 2 volume/no Tone knob fretless. Personal preferences are bypass (the = symbol) and the 5th position (the heart). The 3rd position (the infinity) is equally useful, but not a personal favorite for pure love of the tone it produces - it's just HIGHLY practical in most a LOT of songs if I don't want the "mwaaaah" too pronounced. This Bbox is a littler simpler/smaller than most of the ones Scott makes - I asked him to copy his prototype.

Fedex Ground - if it's still in stock and you're good to go, I wouldn't be surprised if you had it by end-of-week. BUT - that assumes they have the knob you want on-hand. AND that they're doing a shipment trip to the nearby town of San Marcos. Lots of variables and things that could get in the way, but once it ships - 3-4 days.

Well then YOU SIR are good to go. My experience with them is "if it gets shipped by Tuesday, it will reach me in Virginia by Friday."

Have fun with the Bbox - I have found it to reward repeated playing. When I first got it, I was "well, it's fun and interesting, but I won't add it to the pedal board." Now, it's "if I can only take one effect, it's the Bbox."

Let me know when it arrives and we'll add you to the club list and give you a number. :cool:

What pretty sawdust this one made! It brought me back to childhood, a dead end suburban street with an ice cream truck at dusk on a Summer night, I can't even remember what the kind was but it had stuff on it that looked just like this... I'd better stop now, I may become emotional.

There's a new cortobass now in inventory on the Birdsong site [Invalid or Expired Link Removed] ... Looks nice, has the "non-basic" body (contours), and 2 lace pickups...

I won't be snapping this one up though, I'll give someone else a chance ;)

Patience - when it happens, it will be awesome. It took a while for them to find the walnut for C77x (but when they did, they got a TON of basses from that batch) and even longer to get stuff together for my guitarists' EJ-002 (and that batch spawned the first few Mesquitos if memory serves). When it comes together, it's totally worth the wait.

Has anybody played one of these with the tone knob? I don't know if I'll miss the varitone or not? I usually just dial in a tone and go with it, but it sounds like a cool idea. Also, I slap a little, do you have a problem with that with the neck pickup being that tight in there?

a.) Nope - but I know Ben's Cortofusion has a tone knob and mine was supposed to. That said, at this point I'd rather go "no tone knob" then pick a normal knob over a varitone. I'm spoiled now.

b.) Slap - it depends on how you slap - different people use different techniques. I know of at least two or three people who DO slap on them, but I've also seen people say "I couldn't slap with that pickup there." I don't slap much, but when I do, the big old neck humbucker on my 'fusion doesn't interfere at all.

Both are matters of taste and personal preference - MY taste and preferences say "varitone uber alles" and "the neck pickup is not a problem, my lack of interest in developing slap skills is the problem."
