What's the deal with that massive scratch (more like a divet) where the bridge will be?

I would think that was routed out for the bridge grounding wire. Many (most?) basses have a channel like that, though I'd guess the shadow makes it appear larger than it is.

It's a hole drilled for where the ground wire connects to the bridge. Check Warmoth.com and their body inventory showcase and if you look closely, they have holes in roughly the same spot...they're just more symmetrical because they're drilled by CNC rather than by Scott or Wyatt.
Yep, I know about creating space for the ground wire to connect to the bridge - I've just never seen it look like that. I guess it was a handheld drill angled towards the control cavity in the back.
Cool - I reread my own post. Sorry if I came off condescending at all...I only learned about there being a ground wire last year. 20 years of playing, but I never took a bass apart or figured out how they work before early 2006. I suspect you're right - hand-held drill at an angle.

After only about two hours of toying with it, I perfer the infinity symbol(sideways eight) but I don't notice much change...possibly becuase my bass, a esp ltd c305, is active? My guitarist really likes the heart and peace sign.
The varitone in the Bbox is the same one in my Cortofusion prototype. The infinity symbol position is my GO-TO tone. I'm totally with you, but yeah, the active bass isn't going to see as much difference.

A passive/active switch on your bass? Probably. Don't really know - that's out of my depth. Maybe? Sadly, I can only speak to what I've done with it, which thus far has consisted of running a Birdsong bass with no tone control and my guitarist's Birdsong EJ guitar. Both of those instruments show noticeable changes in sound, but they are what they are.
Remember - this is, at it's heart, a piece of folk art with a passive (albeit unconventionally wired) tone control installed. Who knows what impact (if any) any configuration changes might make. Try it and let me know.
