Black Sabbath or Judas Priest?

Ian Hill was my early metronome and their music was more appealing to me than Sabbath....Both great, both different

I like Judas Priest and new it earlier with Painkiller and Screaming For Vengance.
But stuff like Master Of Reality I can listen all day.
Also they groove seventies style.
By the way I liked earlier Priest drummer ( the child molestor )
Scott Dravis is stiffer, less groove, close to zero, I seen them live, but their style wanted to be harder.

I find the solo on All Guns Blazing one of the most amazing.


I couldn't get specific stuff like that for Black Sabath, it's more an overall consistency.

I could not listen to Judas Priest all the time, I would get crazy, but Black Sabath is more manageable.

My favorite was Les Binks. The best drummer with the worst hair. Scott Travis is great, too.

I love them both, and I got into Priest first - my Unleashed in the East vinyl is crackly from massive play.

That being said, I have to choose Sabbath. Side two of Paranoid and side one of Heaven and Hell couldn't be more stylistically different, yet they're equally brilliant.

Which band is "more" ? Dont wanna use the terms "bigger" or "better" because they are relative terms.

Personally I think that BS gave more to the music scene, and influenced more, but I like the JP music better, I think is more fun, complex, more metal in itself.

The correct answer is "Both." But if I had to choose one like my life depended on it, probably Sabbath (but that would have to include the Dio years too).

In terms of vocals, BS = JP

How is ‘more’ any less subjective than ‘bigger’ and ‘better’?

They both operated in different timeframes and hence stood on the shoulders of different giants. Saying that Priest is ‘more metal’ seems like a moot point.

I fail to see the merit of threads like these, but don’t let me hold you back…

Halford and Dio are both better singers than Ozzy IMO, but Ozzy has the "it" factor. Ultimately Sabbath is Iommi's band, but he does not get the credit he deserves. As pointed out above, Sabbath has been, and continues to be, very influential while Judas Preist, not so much. I still crank up Living After Midnight and other JP classics on occasion. They have the advantage of not being overplayed on rock radio.

Love both bands! That being said, bass influence wise - Sabbath. All respect to both but certainly Sabbath over Priest in that vein.
