I saw a Judas Priest concert at the old Reunion Arena in Dallas many years ago. By the first encore several rows of seats in the upper level had been set on fire. The energy in that place was beyond amazing! The smoke and flames, the volume! Priest rocking their asses off on stage, just amazing! Still, watching Ronnie James Dio lead Black Sabbath on the Heaven and Hell and Mob Rules tours were a couple of my most prized concert experiences! Love them both, but Sabbath gets the nod.:thumbsup: For me, anyway......:woot:

Ha, I saw them both at Reunion Arena when I lived in Dallas! Must have been a different JP show, I don't remember the seats on fire!

Tony Iommi is just the ultimate riffmeister. No one else comes close. Long after civilization has destroyed itself and the Earth has begun to cool, radio waves with Iommi's riffs will continue to travel throughout the galaxy rocking distant planets.

Personally I think that BS gave more to the music scene, and influenced more, but I like the JP music better, I think is more fun, complex, more metal in itself.

IMO JP has only a few songs that really matter.
1. Diamonds and Rust. Brilliant cover of a folk song.
2. Electric Eye. Even though it contains the same exact ‘B’ section key change as virtually every other Priest song, it’s still a great and well played song.
3. Love Bites. An unexpected surprise from them.

All the rest of their material is simply not important, and much of it is not that good.

Sabbath, OTOH…. while they did not have the raw talent of a band like Deep Purple, they created a genre and provided reams of stuff that matters. Everything from their title song to WarPigs to Technical Ecstasy (a near prog record, recorded with Rick Wakeman!) to Neon Knights with RJ Dio; an incredible catalog.

I guess we need a post - every once in a while - to appeal to the kindergarteners or the middle-agers who never grew up, to make them feel irrelevant. But, why aren't they playing "Dungeons and Dragons" or cheering degenerate pro athletes with pink ribbons on their apparel and kneeling during the national anthem? Here's my "Y-A-W-N", anyway.
