Borat Got a Beating!

Being big in the states doesn't make him an international sensation. He's known over here, but he ain't no sensation. His movie is not selling out. I guess people over here are more aware of different cultures and cultural differences to not see humor in misrepresenting them.

Did you mean that it isn't selling out in YOUR country, because that would be an untrue statement for his boxoffice draw here in America. Also, if you knew anything about Cohen you'd realize that he is first and formost a satirist. His Borat character, especially on the Ali G show, served to draw out other peoples inherent bigotry.

It simply cannot be argued that Borat is not popular internationally - Borat has been #1 in the global box office since its release. While it is true that the UK comprises the biggest share of Borat's international ticket sales, it is still beating out... Open Season and the Devil Wears Prada...

But there's no question it is unpopular in Eastern Europe and banned in many countries - like Russia!

The Indian Sub Continent has one of the biggest audiences for movies and it hasn't reached there yet! :eyebrow:

Or is your definition of "international" = America and UK...:hmm:

America, UK, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Sweden, amongst others... and now Bulgaria, Greece and Serbia. I also don't see any reason why Borat would be particularly unpopular in India... but there will of course be issues in Russia, Eastern Europe, Central Asia... perhaps also in the Middle East.

I know of the success in the states and Canada. It's just not written up as much here. I didn't intend to sound off in a pretentious manner in my earlier post. To me, successful comedians make fun of what we do and point out the stupidity of our own behaviour.
