Borat Got a Beating!

I think this is it - from people who have seen this kind of thing before - he is just aiming at easier and easier targets - Gee there are still rednecks in the US? - I never imagined! :p

I agree Bruce, if you're going to do satire, do it well and pick some better targets - Chris Morris and 'Brass Eye' did it brilliantly.

To small minded people he is. But to anyone with half a brain, they'll know that it is such a small percentage of American's who are like this, and that there are people exactly the same in every country.

But why only show the worst about a country unless it's to make that point....:hmm:

This seems small-minded to me - to make a film about a group of easy targets who are not exactly representative - what's the point - except cheap, infantile, laughs....?

Well - of course it's all about money - but that's no reason to go see it or think it is any way a good film - and there was a time when Cohen was actually making points - not just going for the cheap laughs...:hmm:

I think he got what he deserved - it's poetic justice!!

"Those who live by the sword....."

yes but im saying thats the people who are going to it.

LOL at people who don't get Borat. Notice I didn't say people who don't think he's funny, because the two camps are wholly different.

Seriously, that's funny.

True, although the film doesn't show the worst in people all of the time. Like the woman running the lawn sale who he calls a gypsy, and the Jewish family, seemed to take it well, or just ignore what he did. Still, even though he did show the worst in some people, I don't think he deserved getting assaulted for it. (there should be a point in there somewhere)

because all the mtv generation happily pays for to get into these movies, same kinda thing as jackass. its money.

Your both right here, it is really just a film about the cheap laughs, but if you can disengage your brain for a couple of hours then it is a funny film, but I can definatley see how it would offend many people.

I like offensive, and I like politically incorrect. I think it's really funny, watching the PC crowd get all uncomfortable about it...you can tell they really want to laugh, but they are constrained by their PC-ness, and they don't want to expose to their friends that they actually think it's funny too...:D:D:D

I guess people over here are more aware of different cultures and cultural differences to not see humor in misrepresenting them.

With respect... you really, really need to lighten up a little.

My dad found this film hysterical... and he moved here from Iraq some 30 years ago... the first time he came to Britain was on behalf of the government, to find out about british cultures... they used to ask him to watch comedies like The Two Ronnies, and explain to them the humor behind them.

Is Borat such a far fetched idea after all?

For all he says about the Jewish in that film... well they actually teach that in middle eastern schools. And if you disagree with it (as my dad lived next to a jewish family, he knew that saying the jews ate children was a complete and total lie), then you got beaten.

Before you start complaining about other people being unaware of other cultures... maybe you should look into it a little yourself first.

Granted though, some of that film was brainless toilet humor... But that has nothing to do with misrepresenting different cultures. Toilet humor is toilet humor, regardless.

SBC is not a stupid man.

So I should change my thoughts on this because daddy lived next to a Jewish family and once lived in Iraq? And before I start complaining I should look into other cultures.

Please elaborate.

For goodness sake people. Its a comedy.

If you dont like it dont watch it.

I dont watch Catherine Tate for that very reason! Or the Late Show for the Americans. I know they are very popular, I just dont get them. Hence when the show comes on......

...wait now......

I switch off!

What a stroke of genius.

I see no point in complaining about something that is hugely popular just because I dont like it.

Well...

Whether he's funny or boring...

Whether he's crass or hilarious...

You have to be a special kind of stupid to go up and say something like that to a random guy on the street, when you're just out for dinner with your buddy, unaccompanied by camera crew or security. Its just *asking* to get a mudhole stomped in you.

To quote South Park's "Mormon" episode...

Dumb Dumb Dumb Dumb Dumb!!!
