Barely touched the surface but very impressed so far. I struggled to get good sounds out of the compressor but think I just need to experiment. I could definitely see myself selling off my GK head and barefaced cab in favour of a powered cab like those headrush monitors though at this rate. Since covid I've gone from a hefty rack mounted GK 700rb and 410rbh cab, to a class d GK Fusion s and 2x10 bf cab, next up it'll be a pedal and in ear monitors
Yeah, the unit is quite easy to edit, but I still like to use the editor even though it's a bit laggy.
X-BASS COMP, first in chain. Threshold 50, Attack 30, Level 30, Ratio 3:1, adjust to taste. Also try the comps in the MASTERING FX category: Move one of the generic FX blocks (FX1, FX2, FX3) after the cab sim, and set FX TYPE to MASTERING FX and TYPE to whatever (I like the NATURAL COMP).
As for drives, I like to split the signal at 200Hz. The multiband-drives ((BASS) X-OD, X-DIST, A-DIST) work well with a full-range signal, though, so it's good to experiment. I tend to use the NATURAL BASS preamp with its ORIGINAL cab 99% of the time (DYN421, short, 5cm), just nice and fat, not boomy. The X-DRIVE preamp is for a modern scooped tone, but you can also get similar results with the A-DIST crossed over at 200Hz with a ~6-8dB cut at 1kHz (or leave the mids untouched if you want to cut off some heads at the audience).
Using a HPF/LPF somewhere in the chain, as mentioned above, is recommended (either main out or (parametric) EQ block, I put mine after the amp block). My settings are 63Hz and 6.3kHz, but it comes down to personal preference (the filter is -3dB at the cut-off frequency, always better to use your ears).
Not sure if it's necessary to sell the Barefaced, the 2/3-way 12" cabs are pretty flat as far as bass cabs go. I've got a Super Twelve T and Big Twin T, and they can both take cab sims (they're loaded with PA drivers after all), YMMV. Could just go in through the GK's effects return and see if it works for you before springing for a powered monitor (you'll be paying big bucks for a full-range powered PA cab of comparable quality!).
