I discovered a new trick, may have seen it on a vid, but not sure which one. I have a Star Lifter DI that I run in one of the FX loops at the end of my chain in the Core. I discovered that if you change the type to Mix Direct it gives you a parallel clean and effected loop. This way I can dial in the perfect balance of SL and Core tones. It has turned my board into the perfect headphone set up.

Just got my GT-1000core after a week of listening to reviews and audio clips from it.

Assuming I can get the child to sleep in good time I'll be spending the night playing. Gonna try and dial in a tone to match my GK Fusion S, see how close I can get. Any good walkthroughs and tips anyone can recommend?

Initialize a user patch and build a patch from scratch like you would a board. I start with compressor, get a good tone and move from there. Don’t be afraid to mess around with the division’s and mixers for parallel fX lines. Watch some of guitar’s videos on the Tube. Lots of great info.
Let us know what you think and when you have specific questions.
Good luck!

Awesome cheers. Yeah input levels and bass mode are top of my list. Do people prefer to edit patches direct on the unit or via pc?

Super excited to play around with dividing by frequency to experiment with getting some really punchy drive tones. Also I quite liked the idea of blending a little growl in for heavier notes etc. Just excited to get in there and fiddle!

My preference is on the unit, but I do both. And yes input is your first step.

So after an hour I managed to get to grips a little. Found my way around the menus, set up input for both my basses and had a little flick through presets. The UI is no where near as intimidating when you're actually doing it rather than watching others on YouTube.

Managed to get a blank patch set up and play with some parallel drive effects using the high/low pass filters, very fun to play with.

Barely touched the surface but very impressed so far. I struggled to get good sounds out of the compressor but think I just need to experiment. I could definitely see myself selling off my GK head and barefaced cab in favour of a powered cab like those headrush monitors though at this rate. Since covid I've gone from a hefty rack mounted GK 700rb and 410rbh cab, to a class d GK Fusion s and 2x10 bf cab, next up it'll be a pedal and in ear monitors

If you’re interested an FRFR cab, Line 6 StageSource L3t, 1400w, 2x10, 3 way speaker. Might be getting one myself.

One thing that confused me when I built my own patch is that I didn't seem to be able to pick a cab type, only mic and distance etc. Am I missing something? It's running the latest firmware. Not sure if it's due to a change that's been added since the tutorial videos I've been watching?

In the output settings, Line/Phones the speaker type is fixed, Recording you can select the speaker type.

Yeah, the unit is quite easy to edit, but I still like to use the editor even though it's a bit laggy.

X-BASS COMP, first in chain. Threshold 50, Attack 30, Level 30, Ratio 3:1, adjust to taste. Also try the comps in the MASTERING FX category: Move one of the generic FX blocks (FX1, FX2, FX3) after the cab sim, and set FX TYPE to MASTERING FX and TYPE to whatever (I like the NATURAL COMP).

As for drives, I like to split the signal at 200Hz. The multiband-drives ((BASS) X-OD, X-DIST, A-DIST) work well with a full-range signal, though, so it's good to experiment. I tend to use the NATURAL BASS preamp with its ORIGINAL cab 99% of the time (DYN421, short, 5cm), just nice and fat, not boomy. The X-DRIVE preamp is for a modern scooped tone, but you can also get similar results with the A-DIST crossed over at 200Hz with a ~6-8dB cut at 1kHz (or leave the mids untouched if you want to cut off some heads at the audience).

Using a HPF/LPF somewhere in the chain, as mentioned above, is recommended (either main out or (parametric) EQ block, I put mine after the amp block). My settings are 63Hz and 6.3kHz, but it comes down to personal preference (the filter is -3dB at the cut-off frequency, always better to use your ears).

Not sure if it's necessary to sell the Barefaced, the 2/3-way 12" cabs are pretty flat as far as bass cabs go. I've got a Super Twelve T and Big Twin T, and they can both take cab sims (they're loaded with PA drivers after all), YMMV. Could just go in through the GK's effects return and see if it works for you before springing for a powered monitor (you'll be paying big bucks for a full-range powered PA cab of comparable quality!).

Gotta say, the GK Fusion sounds way warmer than I've been able to replicate on the core amps which has made me wonder if I'd want to rely entirely on it. The 4 cable approach is super powerful although I feel like the logistics of having a preamp pedal wired up would be way easier to manage.

Thanks @Windreaper that's really helpful!
