Boss GT 1000Core

Much respect Amper - a classic Gen2 iPod with hard drive :-)

In terms of the Tone Studio, I actually prefer to program on the Core itself rather than the Mac/PC app. The Core's encoders are premium quality with detents and additional functionality by pressing whilst rotating.

It's a 40GB 4th gen iPod. The battery is shot, but it still plays music when plugged in.

Still got my 5GB Firewire iPod, which still works but hasn't had any music loaded onto it since the early 2000s; now it's like a time capsule of what I was listening to back then.

OK, so my second USB-C to USB-A adapter arrived today, and I'm playing around with the programming. I discovered something that's not obvious in the manual: the compressor meter doesn't show on the Play Screen unless you are actually editing the compressor settings.

Also, imagine my surprise when I flipped to YouTube on my laptop to find a song, and the audio played through my Core into my Simplifier, and my headphones! Very cool!

(If you care, it was Pale Saints' "A Thousand Stars Burst Open", from their 1992 album "In Ribbons". Delay on bass always makes me think of that song. Ian Masters, the bassist, was responsible for the name of one of my old band's albums.)

Yea super handy in studio, I ran my monitors directly out of the core sometimes.

I had the same problem, this will happen if you set the SEND to SUB OUT. This is right out of the Parameter Guide.

The SEND jack is used as a SUB OUT jack.
You can send a signal separate from the
OUTPUT jack to a PA system or other
equipment.
In this case, the RETURN jack works as an AUX
IN jack. The input signal is output from the
OUTPUT jack along with the sound going
through the GT-1000CORE effects.
* Be aware that if a plug is not plugged into
the RETURN jack, the signal sent to SUB OUT
is also output to OUTPUT.

If you set the SEND to SUB OUT/AUX MUTE, the Output Level Knob will function properly.

I am patiently waiting for the postal carrier to arrive with a set of right-angle micro-USB adapters that will make using the computer editor easier.

Also, I don’t really plan on using the IR features, but I downloaded the free Vintage 30 IRs from Celestion just to give them a whirl.

I've been wondering why the Mic is an option, active, and can't be turned off when Output is set to Line/Phones so I went back and re-read the manual and for this output choice it says "The speaker type for the preamp is fixed (original)." So I guess it makes sense to have an option for mics but I'm really not hearing a huge difference between the choices. I've just set it to flat and fiddled a bit between the Mic and Direct levels setting. It'd be a lot easier just to be able to turn off the Mic for the Line/Phones output.

I kept my VTBass when I sold most of my pedals after getting the GTCore. I haven’t used it in over a year but I’m planning to do an A/B comparison with the Concert Amp in particular. But my impression so far is the VTBass sounds organic and the AIRD Amps sound clinical, for want of a better word. I love both the digital and analog sound, and I’ll be integrating the VTBass into my pedalboard.

I have the Core and VTBassDI, they are very different from each other. You're right about organic vs clinical. What I've had some success with is turning all the amps off and using the Core's Bass Drv, which is a model of the Tech21 Bass Driver DI.

I haven't fooled around much with the modelling features of the Core, but my first impression was that I was having a difficult time getting the X-Drive overdrive and the X-Drive preamp to sound anything like my Boss BB-1X Bass Driver. Presumably, these all use more or less the same MDP algorithms. But, I didn't put any real amount of time into it.

The first thing I'd suspect would be different input levels, but if the sound isn't even in the same ballpark, I'm just as confused as you are.

how good is the core for enveloped filter / auto Filter things ?

i just got me a audio source "spectrum" in, and i´m not so fond of it,
thinking about to send it back, and wait till the Core is in stock again ( in several weeks)

"This idea" emerged from: that i like the octave effect and some (digital) drive.
which is very unexpected. ( i have otherwise a nice tube-pre setup, consisting of several tube-pres in chain) But i´m mainly in need for a some nice envelope filter action.

i have to decide on this "bevore" the Core is back in stock.......not possible to check both side by side
