So the Bass Katana did very well at the outdoor gig today. It was a Teen Challenge event which is an organization that helps teens get off drugs and alcohol, through Christ. We had FOH, and the DI worked flawlessly, and my onstage volume was great. Punchy and warm with plenty of low end. I ran the GT1000 CORE into the Power Amp In on the 210. Very pleased with my tone.

Must admit I do frequently get waves of considering selling my GK Fusion S and Barefaced two10 and replace with the katana. I’ve dialled such a nice tone via 4cm now though that I’m not sure I could say bye. Might see if they have some at the local music shop to have a try.

I thought about trying the 4cm, but the CORE>Power amp in is just such a great tone, and such a simple set ip

Aye, I think there are diminishing returns for setting up 4cm. The GK preamp just gives a really nice warm tube feel that I struggle to replicate with the AIRD preamps. I don’t really like the Concert or X-Bass preamps much by themselves, if there were more preamp models I suspect it’d be enough to ditch 4cm though. I’d say I got about 90% of the way with the Natural bass preamp.

I use the Natural as well. Works well for fretless.

Did you try this tip from @JoeDoe ;

"I am currently enjoying the ‘Clean’ drive with about 40% clean signal blended in for a nice somewhat tube overdriven sound."

Na I forgot about that, will have a play. In my head I’m imagining a bit of a DG harmonic booster vibe from it.

I keep meaning to have a play with using the dynamic parallel split so heavy playing gives a little extra growl too. Thought you could get some cool sounds with that. I tried it before but foolishly had a heavy compressor before it so it kind of killed the effect

That's why I've mostly been falling back to the GT-1B. To me it sounds better then the GT1000 with more amp models, including a GK model. The GT1000 has a number of practical features that are useful which are not found on the GT-1B, and obviously it has tricky routing options, but I personally don't really need or use those on the GT1000 for bass and find that stuff to be kind of a rabbit hole. I also did get some really impressive results with using custom IR's in the GT1000. So its not over yet..but my initial reaction between the two units has been to favor the GT-1B for exactly the reason that the GT1000's collection of bass models is just very limited. The GT-1B sounds really good also for a fraction of the price. I think its being overlooked by the glitter and gloss of the GT1000.

You can put the GT-1B in a FX send/return of the Core :D;)

The non-bass "Natural" pre-amp is also worth a look

Well this got me thinking, I have a lpf/hpf on most of my bass patches so I could probably experiment with a lot of the guitar preamps. It’s a constant battle between over engineering vs finding the perfect tone.

That being said since I got the GK in the loop via 4cm I haven’t really thought much about tone which is probably the goal

This over engineering drives me crazy :laugh:. I like that it is possible because it makes me feel this multi FX is future proof but it would be nice to have the same patch for like .. a month ?

Still I like it better than the constant buying new pedals and the soldering and the rearranging of my pedalboard (although I liked that when I started with that..).

I was running my GT-1B with the NUX Mini Studio to get additional IRs with the Amp models.
