Boss GT-1B Patches

Just found you can assign pedals "up + down" (when you press both together) to MEM+1 which moves to the next patch and pedals "up + ctl1" to MEM-1. So you can use the individual up, down and ctl1 as stomp pedals and still move through the patches. I've move the tuner (which was "up + down" by default) to the foot pedal button (press foot pedal down hard... force required can be adjusted by another setting) and I don't use the looper ("up + ctl1" by default).

You make these changes in the System menu.

So in effect (excuse the pun) you have 99 pedal boards each with 5 stomp boxes. Pretty versatile! Pressing two pedals at the same time is a bit of an art but you soon get the hang of it.

Does anyone know how to create a smaller group of patches that you can cycle through rather than having to go through 99 user patches and 99 preset patches? On the Zoom MS-60B you can chain patches together so you only cycle through these rather all of them.

Just picked up a GT-1B this evening. There sure are a few useless patches, but I'll edit those out as I start to get it organized to my liking. Ultimately I'll probably end up only using a few patch positions for my favorites anyway. I do like the idea of inserting blank patches for fall back positions. I was having my doubts about keeping it at first, but now that I'm getting the hang of tweaking and creating patches I'm getting some sounds that I like better. I found the default OD/fuzz tones in particular to be a let down, but once I started tweaking them some I was happier with them. You do get a lot for $200. Amazing what it'll do for the same price (or less) as a single boutique pedal. I was thinking it might replace my pedalboard, but I think it'll become part of it instead.

has anyone figured a way to organize 3 patches into a bank and assign them to the up, down, and ctl1 buttons so that you can quickly and easily call up one of the patches in any order during live performance by hitting that particular button?

If you go into the edit menu you can assign any effect to the up, down, ctl1, pedal and pedal switch (activated by pressing the pedal forward hard). So you have five stomp boxes in that patch. And there are 99 user patches. If you assign effects to the up and down pedals you won't be able to use them to change patches. However, the up/down and down/ctl1 when pressed together operate the tuner and looper but they can be reprogrammed to do a patch up or patch down. This is in the system settings I think. See my earlier post in this thread. So you now have 5 stomp boxes and a way to change patches using the pedals rather than rotating a knob. It's like having 99 pedalboards.

Although it's easy to change all these settings on the device itself, it's even easier using the editor software which makes changes on the device in realtime so you can tweak settings without squinting at the small screen on the GT-1B.

Thanks for detailed reply. But still figuring if there is a way to go directly to different pre-programmed patches without scrolling up or down through a list. I’m trying to emulate the funtionality of the GT-10B in this much smaller and lighter package. I do have an additional Boss extension pedal giving me 2 more stomps, maybe that can help somehow? Thanks

I'd like to know the answer to this too. With the Zoom MS-60B you can chain patches together and cycle through them rather than going through all of them. Not sure how to do this on the GT-1B.

I did discover that you can use the parametric equaliser without using the one available in FX1 or FX2 as there is another identical one in OD effects (called PARA.EQ). This means you still have FX1 and FX2 free for other effects. I've assigned the OD effects to the foot pedal so pressing it forward activates the PARA.EQ which I have set to boost some mid frequencies (maybe for a solo).

i'm a bit thick with the technology, so please be patient, and very simple with any replies to this, but, is there a way to down tune using a patch rather than having to use a separate bass? only in a covers band, but our guitarist has now decided he wants to down tune half a step on a couple of songs, i dont want to be having to lug extra basses around if i can help it.

Please, more patches. I'm a beginner. This helps a lot.
I'm looking for patches for Roger Waters (comfortably numb).
It's rare to find a forum about this topic. I bought a used GT-1B, and, for a beginner like me, it's perfect. Makes my Squier sounds like Fender (only in my dreams!)

Slowly but surely I’m adding patches... I rarely play bass compared to guitar, and when I do, I’m torn between three rigs that I have to divide the time between... an amp with a ms60b, a Zoom B3n, and my favourite but least used of the three so far, the gt-1b.

When I use the boss, I rarely program patches, just find a preset with potential and edit it to do what I want. I hope to get a lot of spare time to dig in deep amd set up a lot of patches and then share them. As it is my time playing any music is very long mixed as I work a lot of hours and have a lot of time where I can’t make noise at home, but yeah... so far, I think the boss unit is by far the best option for bass tones available (though I haven’t played Helix or anything like that but that’s a separate entity and price range lol) and really want to get to grips with it and get the best possible sound out of it. Love it. It’s a shame that it gets so little recognition around here, not that the b3n is bad by any means but it seems to hog the limelight and the boss gets nothing.

I searched and didn't find anything, but has anyone connected a GT-1B to a MacBook Pro w/USB C? I have a usb a to c hub, but it isn't recognizing it. Tried several cables. Works with other devices. Just curious if it's worth getting the cable from amazon.

Use the Pitch Shifter: Pitch -1 / Direct Level 0 / Pre Delay 0/ E. Level 100.

Yes. Just used a USB cable and downloaded the software and drivers for the Mac from the GT-1B website.

Start with no effects then add small amounts to flavour your tone just like adding salt and pepper. Less is more unless you knowingly want to go OTT ;-)
