First synth pedal I have owned that doesn’t eventually fart out on the tracking on whole notes. fades out perfectly.

Boss SY-1 Synth

Mine finally came in (here's hope for all you Canadians). I played with it for about an hour and a half and found a sound that gave my Dirty Robot the boot. Will post more later.
I’m in Canada and got mine in early Dec. mind you I ordered it in July!!
For Rush fans:
I am certain this is not the only pedal where you can step on the pedal to hold a note but with the synthy sound of this pedal you can get the Taurus Bass Pedal sound on songs like - Spirit of Radio, Tom Sawyer and Red Barchetta. I'm using Type Lead2, variation 6, Depth cranked to the max for an octave higher, and rolled back the Effect volume to about 9:00.
For Xanadu fans, I found the Type Bass, variation 6 works well for E,G,D,A intro and fades nicely. Also using this setting for The Trees when bass pedals and drums come in during the quiet passage before the third verse.

Got lucky and found one of these little guys on FB Marketplace with an expression pedal for $165. Got a good deal and I skipped the wait! Totally stoked to make some gnarly beep boop noises with this guy 
Seems pretty cheap for what it does, considering the price of most other synth pedals out there.

If you had a chance to try the Boss SYB-5 (or my Behringer clone BSY-600, which I'm basing this post on), this pedal has much more usable sounds. Considering the SYB-5 is retailing for $249.99 Cdn and this one is $289.99 Cdn, I'd say that's an extra $40 well spent. Saying that, my BSY-600 is staying put as it can reasonably cop the Oberheim synth intro on Tom Sawyer.

Got to play one at NAMM. Impressive unit. Mind blowing amount of sonic potential. The rate sweep with an expression pedal is going to be so rad. Boss guy said they were shipping a lot of them, but looks like Reverb is still SY-1 ghost town.
Found one of these for sale used locally for a great price. One hundred dollars well spent.
Planned on buying a bass this week but talked myself out of it. This pedal might end up being my consolation purchase. I have the old Digitech Bass Synth Wah and the EHX Mono Synth...I like them both. Hoping this pedal will be as fun and offer more/better features. I like the knob only feature (no need to edit via a laptop) but do wish it was in the new BOSS 200 format that would allow for a few presets. I've read through the thread and appreciate the insights.
Has anyone had much luck getting a convincing Moog Taurus sound out of this?

I've been using Lead 1, Variation 11 for Moog type sounds like Rush's The Trees & Spirit of Radio. You'll need the effect volume around 9:30 (assuming dry is at noon). I've found that Lead 2, Variation 6 with effect volume around 9:00 will cop the Moog Taurus sounds on Tom Sawyer & Red Barchetta. Don't forget, if you time it right for the last three songs (with Depth at 5:00), you can hold the note on the SY-1 a la Taurus Pedals while you play busy parts!

What a great idea! Dunno if Boss are regularly on TB, but adopting the Boss 200 format with presets would be a superb upgrade and a perfect half way house between the SY-1 and the SY-1000.
Hey Ya'all SY-1 users, I have a question on the Send/Return loop in the SY-1,
As I don't have an SY-1 and entered into a discussion about one on another Forum.
Does the SY-1 Send/Return loop still affect the signal if the SY-1 foot switch is "off",
so in the OFF state does this bypass the whole pedal, or is the Send/Return still active on the bypassed Synth signal.??
