A bigger deal than most people would think. It's ten times harder to tell a person to go get stuffed to their face.
This shouldn't have to apply to this situation, but then again... Depending on the bank (as I understand it) there can be different policies regarding this. Sometimes they just make you sign the paperwork, sometimes they are required to deactivate and reissue the card, sometimes they have to set you up with a completely new account. Getting a new card, not so bad... New accounts, PITA.
The worst job I had, by a long shot, was working in the overdraft department of a bank. There's a lot of laws regarding what the banks are required to do to help you with a situation like this, but in the end it's more profitable for the bank to charge you overdraft fees than help you recoup your losses. So they have a habit of just not telling you about how they can help you.
