Broughton Audio Super Thread

***Completely unrelated and sappy post warning***

I’m so excited!!

Just got a call from the shop I’d dropped my old ‘77 Rickenbacker 4001 off at, for some pickup wiring to the new harness, and final setup, letting me know it’s all finished up, and I can pick it up tomorrow!

It’s my birth year Bass, that I’ve had for decades now. She’d been through a lot over the years, much of it at my hands I’m sorry to say, and hasn’t produced sound for years.

Spray painted rattle can chrome/silver sometime in the 90’s, after already being somewhat battle scarred when I got it...

Also a fair bit of corrosion more recently, and aging electronics.

Finally made a point of undoing as much of the damage as I could, and fixing it up, and honestly may tear up playing it again for the first time tomorrow.

We’ve both been through some $h!t over the years, especially lately, and both have our scars, but we’ve both survived, and can still make some noise!

Awesome! My rickenbacker is my forever bass.

I've thought about getting a '51 P replica, but a genuine one is not in the cards. I had a '52 Ford F-1 panel truck "band bus" in the mid '70s. That the closest I've come to owning a birth year example. (that's my old friend Paul Duff on the Cello).

I’m guessing that dibs on the band bus is out of the question.

how ‘bout the cello?

I’ve boiled it down my two preferred knobs on Broughton pedals.

If there’s room for larger knobs for pedals that only require a couple it’s the witch hat style like on the Dream Crusher. Precise smooth operation with just the right tension.

If there isn’t much room then I prefer the low profile rugged Industrial style knobs like on the Calamity.

Both styles are easy to identify their positions visually and most importantly, they tend to not move when the cover of the pedalboard foam closes down on them.

Sadly, the old truck we named "Cassidy" is long gone, but her flathead V8 took us to gigs up and down the east coast and never missed a beat.

I think Paul still has his cello. I got to play his carved German upright on the tunes he played on the cello. I doubt he'd ever part with either of them.

Are you changing the knobs on your others to match? My only complaint about the studio one is the knobs get moved too easily. I need to find a better spot for it where it is less likely to get bumped.

Not changing them. I’d like too. Just a random post. Yes I totally agree about the S1. There’s not much tension on them and I’ve got it in a bad position as well. Every time I take it out off the case there’s a very good chance the knobs have moved and need re adjustment.

I like the knobs on my Messenger, they don't seem to move by themselves. When I had a LPF/HPF in the same place they seemed to always be in different positions. The gain would get bumped and I would be like, why do I have no sound? On the Josh Wah I could never see where the knobs were, the light was so bright. There, that's it in a nutshell of all my complaints of all the Bros I've owned.

My complaint goes a little further - my MBF did not always tell me when I was low on bacon for example. The Missing Bacon Filter is supposed to do what the name implies. However, I later found out that it was set to 2 remaining slices - NOT good in the rule of threes!
