Broughton Audio Super Thread

Descriptive language aside, once my SVD arrives I will have to see how it either compliments or can replace my SYB-3 and OC-2.

I don't have any comment on the SYB-3, but the SVD could definitely replace my Octabvre (and by extension my OC-2). Octabvre is a cool pedal, it does what I want from my OC-2 and more, but it's not what I need all the time... It's great to give thickness to notes played higher on the neck (duh-- octave pedal).

But transposing all my playing by an octave simply to cop a synth tone is actually kind of a pain. Really looking forward to that unison voice and being able to play in the range I'm more comfortable in. And the fact that this is all in an "octaver pedal"-- i.e. a dead simple device, not a giant complicated "synth pedal" as I have seen and tried before...

Yeah, I snagged a pair for my two boards in case they do more for me than my 3Leaf Octabvres. I really have no idea, and I’m very used to the 3Leaf’s feature set. I toggle to the solo’d octave a lot. It’ll be fun sorting it out.
Two totally different pedals, I think of the SVD more of a "clean octave", especially the sub channel, SVD IMO sounds better blended with clean bass, the MK2/3 3leaf is more OC2 synthy, sub is far from clean but sounds very good and adjustable. It's absolutely worth having both they're so different than each other. They are both pretty equal, if using Josh's tips on the product page, with tracking

Thanks for this! The unobtanium level has left these a mystery to me, so what you describe is secretly what I am hoping for. On my big experimental board, I'll easily have room for both and will likely keep my 3Leaf Mk. II in sub mode. On my smaller board, I will likely only have room for my Mk. III. That might mean I have a SVD available for someone after I get to check them out.

Well, I'll tell you this, I had a MK2 when I had my MK3 and they were so close together I sold the MK2. I would rather have the MK3 and SVD than a MK2 and MK3. The MK3 running INTO the SVD even sounds good if you do it right, MEGA low hertzzz

Toan question for the folks who know things: I scored a SVD this morning, and an RFE a few months ago. General wisdom of the crowd has led me to use the RFE to help get the most out of my octave pedal (currently a BOD), setting a slight resonance bump somewhere around 25-30hz, at least as best I can eyeball it. I have enough other tone shapers on my board that I don't neeeeed the RFE to be my master EQ.

But...in the course of a set, I'm going to use an octaver but a few times. It seems wasteful to use my two coolest pedals part time.

My question for those who have used the RFE and an octaver on the same board: Is there a way to set my HPF in a way that would reasonably accommodate both the sun octave and a traditional HPF point? Or is this a situation where compromise simply isn't possible?

I understand that ideally a HPF would be set at the lowest frequency your amp can produce to make it more efficient. But if I'm playing with PA support and the subs in the club can handle my sub bass, am I overthinking this and worrying about which of the two I should prioritize when deciding where to set my HPF?

So I gigged my real '63 B-15N for the first time in years tonight. I missed this combo (the P and my B-15) - the sound is incredible. This was my main rig for 10 - 15 years. My back hated me.

Why am I posting this in the Broughton thread? My pedalboard setup with the P-15 as the heart comes pretty darn close especially with the Two Notes C.A.B. M+. It's the first time I've tried to see the difference since I've switched to it as my main one. I played it last night and will be Sunday. The single 1x6" that I play through is not going to sound like a 15" even with the C.A.B. M+. Tonight was a reminder my usual rig will never replace my B-15. I wonder if I got a bigger speaker if it would be even closer but my back just gave me the finger on that ...

Life is strange. Right after scoring a SVD yesterday I had 2 bits of appalling news, the first proper crushing a dream and the second involved me waiting around for hours for someone who will now have to deal with the consequences of their actions. Just got back home.

Sigh.

Be good, everybody.

I scored an SVD only to suffer pet death earlier today. Life is strange.

Sorry to hear about the bad turns. :(

Hang in there Broughthers.

This too will pass.

That doesn’t sound like a good day (SVD notwithstanding) for someone. Consequences are usually an unappealing side of life that is best left unbidden.

Thanks for the thoughts, all. It was not exactly my pet but my gf's dog, who was old, 14 years old,and had been having intrusive health problems that were just getting worse. There was talk of putting her down soon for that reason, but she somewhat unexpectedly died on her own.
She had that dog for 12 years, I was there for the last 2. It's still rough.

Funny enough when she told me, I had called her while driving to tell her of a good new work opportunity I've worked out. Life really is strange. Of course I call with this happy news which makes her wanna skirt her bad news, but I'm just like "hit me with it anyway" not sure what to expect. Had to pull over and cry it out for a minute before returning to her place to help her out.

Wait... why did this turn into a therapy session?
I swear it's just crushed dreams bro

You could probably find a lightweight 15” cab under 30lbs. nowadays. Definitely a 12”, so there’s hope.
